FAIRBORN — Families are invited to a free musical concert Saturday from Abiding Christ (AC) Strings/Fairborn Regional Orchestra.

The concert, titled “Music through the Ages,” will incorporate a wide variety of classical styles in the different eras of orchestral music, including the music of Debussy, Marquez, and Beethoven.

The concert will be held at Abiding Christ Lutheran Church, 326 E. Dayton Yellow Springs Road, Fairborn at 7 p.m. on Saturday. Attendance will be free for everyone.

Kathy Johnston founded AC Strings 26 years ago within her private violin studio in order to bring her students into the scene of ensemble performance. Johnston now has more than 40 years of violin studio teaching experience.

Dr. Phillipa Burgess, Fairborn Regional Orchestra co-director, will help enlighten the audience on the classical composers and musical styles the band will be playing. Burgess is a career music educator and musicologist with decades of experience at all education levels.

Gary C. Johnson, Fairborn Civic Band director and co-director of Fairborn Regional Orchestra, will also conduct the full orchestra.

“This season is one of the high points of my year,” said Johnson. “I enjoy working toward a musical goal and bringing it to fruition in performance. Music enhances mentally, physically, and emotionally and is a very important part of the development of the whole person.”

These three music educators started the Fairborn Regional Orchestra together a little over eight years ago and has continuously provided audiences with two annual concerts — one in the summer, and one in the Christmas season.
