WGC Jr. golf wraps up

XENIA — The Grand Finale Scramble for the WGC Junior Golf League was held last week, with 17 Junior Golfers teeing it up.

A new scramble record of 7-under-par 27 was set by the five person team of Rosie Gray, Elliott Houser, Owen Brockman Caleb Goecke and Tyler Goecke.

Various tee boxes were used for the different age groups. Nine year old Rosie Gray had one of the shots of the day with a chip-in on Hole No. 7 for a birdie two for her team. Caleb Goecke had another shot of the day as he drove the second green setting up an easy birdie. Carroll Junior Tyler Goecke played his usual steady game that led to other birdies.

The team of Ethan Perkins, Miles Witt, Jacob Tackett, Joe Hollingshead, Josh Tackett and Brenden Renna posted a 1-under 34 to take second place.

Owen Brockman made the longest putt. Caleb Goecke had the closest to the pin shot on Hole No. 5. Tyler Goecke hit the closest-to-the-pin second shot, on Hole No. 4. Ethan Perkins and Caleb Goecke won the Longest Drive contests.

PGA pro and WGC owner Garay Goecke hosted a pizza party for the junior league. Junior Golf League Directors Jim Beaver and Roy Cassidy thanked adult volunteers Mark Houser and Beavercreek Boys Golf Coach Chris Nartker for their dedicated help this summer. Beaver praised the entire group of junior golfers for their fine sportsmanship and good golf etiquette this summer. He encouraged the juniors to keep practicing for golf is a game for life. He also wished the high school players good luck on their upcoming season.
