FAIRBORN — Travis Hunsbarger was sworn in Monday, Nov. 21, as Fairborn’s newest police officer. Hunsbarger filled a current vacancy in the officer ranks.
Hunsbarger is a Beavercreek resident and graduate of Wayne High School. After graduation, Hunsbarger became a member of the United States Marine Corp, in which he served six years in active duty and is currently in “inactive status.” He went on to attend Clark State Criminal Justice Academy, where he graduated and obtained his Ohio Peace Officers Certification in July 2014.
In addition to the Marine Corp, Hunsbarger worked at the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office where he served as a corrections officer since October 2014. He also served as a reserve officer with the German Township Police Department since September 2015.
“This is the field I want to be in, and I am excited to have the opportunity to do it using my three previous positions as stepping stones to get here,” Hunsbarger said. “I joined the Marine Corp to have a better standing for a position in law enforcement after my military duty was served.”
Hunsbarger’s father is a Vietnam Veteran, and his grandfather is a World War II Veteran. He hopes to eventually serve the regional SWAT team as it is relates to what he has previously done in the military.
