FAIRBORN — A brief look at Saturday’s scheduled Wright State University men’s and women’s basketball games. The men play at home, while the women’s team will play on the road today, Nov. 18.
The Wright State women’s basketball team will stay on the road with its 3-0 record to play at 3 p.m. today Chicago State.
The Raiders: Undefeated at 3-0 after defeating Tennessee Tech, Grace and Eastern Illinois, Wright State won at EIU Thursday night 71-61, led by Chelsea Welch’s 23 points, while Emily Vogelpohl finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Four Raiders are in double-figure scoring now with Welch leading the way at 18.3 per game.
Cougars: Chicago State is now 0-2 after loses to Kansas State and Valparaiso. Kaylee Allen had 11 points and 10 rebounds against Valpo while Sh’Toya Sanders had 14 points.
Looking Ahead: The Raiders will hit the road again for the San Juan Shootout (played in Daytona Beach, Fla., this year) where they play at 11 a.m. Thursday against Georgetown, and at 11 a.m. Friday against Clemson.
Men’s Basketball Hosts Toledo
FAIRBORN — The Wright State men’s basketball team now has a 2-0 record after wins at Southern Illinois and at home against Miami. Now they turn their attention to Toledo at 7 p.m. Saturday. The game can be seen live on ESPN3 or heard on 106.5 FM on the iHeart app.
Wright State: The Raiders have two career games from Mark Alstork as he finished with 30 points at SIU and 29 against Miami. Alstork came up short of a triple double as he finished with 10 rebounds and eight assists. Against the RedHawks, Steven Davis added 16 points and Justin Mitchell had 14 points.
Toledo: The Rockets are currently 1-1 after losing at St. Joseph’s 77-76 and beating Youngstown State at home, Tuesday night, 103-98 in overtime. Jonathan Williams leads UT in scoring at 21.5 points per game and had 25 against YSU. Steve Taylor, Jr. has grabbed 30 rebounds in the first two games, including 23 versus the Penguins.
The teams have split the 10 meetings through the years with WSU winning on Dec. 8, 2009 in Toledo 66-56.
