XENIA — To celebrate and recognize Breastfeeding Awareness Month in August, Greene County Public Health officials are calling for original essays and art to be submitted.

The essay contest will feature a prize, while the artwork (paintings, drawings, sculptures, photos, etc.) will be displayed at the Greene County Public Health office in Xenia, the Xenia and Yellow Springs branches of the Greene County Public Library, and at Blue Jacket Books. The 2016 theme is “Breastfeeding Protects: Mom, Baby and the Earth.”

Essay contest

– Essays should address the theme and what it means to an entrant and their family or should address an aspect of past breastfeeding experiences.

– Entries may be in the form of an essay, a poem or any other written or electronic form.

– All writing submitted must be original work.

– The essays will be judged and the winner selected by Greene County Public Health. A prize will be awarded to the winner.

– Entries must be submitted by July 22 by email to [email protected]; in person at 360 Wilson Drive, Xenia, or 600 Pierce Drive, Fairborn; or mailed to the Xenia address.

Art displays

– Artistic expressions will be highlighted through the displays. Any pregnancy or breastfeeding-related photos or artwork will be considered for display. Displays will be at the Public Health building and other various locations in Greene County.

– Entries must be submitted by July 22 by email to [email protected]; in person at 360 Wilson Drive, Xenia, or 600 Pierce Drive, Fairborn; or mailed to the Xenia address.
