Greene County News
XENIA — OSU Extension Greene County is offering free cooking classes geared toward helping low-income adults learn about healthy meal preparation and sensible shopping on a limited budget.
Ohio SNAP-Ed, through OSU Extension, offers Cooking Matters for Adults and Parents as one of the many curricula offered by Ohio SNAP-Ed. Sessions of each class include hands-on food preparation, knife skills, chef demonstrations, nutrition education and food budgeting and shopping techniques.
The program involves six, two-hour classes. Participants must pre-register. The class size is limited to 12-15 people. During each of the six classes, a volunteer chef will lead a cooking demonstration followed by participants breaking into teams to prepare the recipe for themselves. Participants will then have the opportunity to sit down and enjoy the meal together.
All classes will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in Xenia at OSU Extension Greene County, 100 Fairground Road, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on July 6, 13, 20, 27, Aug. 3, and 10.
To register, call Erin Fawley at 937-372-9971 extension 121 or email her at [email protected]. You can also contact her if you can’t attend this scheduled series but would like more information on future series coming up later in the year.
