CSU to play at Soldier Field in 2023

WILBERFORCE — Central State University announced its 2023 football schedule featuring four home games and an appearance in the Chicago Football Classic.

Entering the 2023 campaign under the leadership of head coach Kevin Porter, the Marauders will kick off the season on Sept. 2 against Mississippi Valley State in the 25th edition of the Chicago Football Classic. The game will be held at Soldier Field in downtown Chicago. CSU will make its fifth appearance in the CFC and the first since the 2016 season.

“Opening the season in a venue like Soldier Field provides a great experience for our student-athletes,” Porter said. “Chicago has a great tradition of hosting HBCU football and we look forward to kicking off the season in the windy city on September 2.”

Following the trip to Chicago, CSU returns to the Miami Valley to play at the University of Dayton on Sept. 9 at Welcome Stadium. The game will be the first meeting between the two schools since the 2016 season.

CSU begins SIAC play on the road with a matchup against defending West Division champ Tuskegee University on Sept. 16 in the newly renovated Abbott Memorial Stadium.

The Marauder’s home opener is on Sept. 23 against the defending SIAC champion Tigers of Benedict College followed by another home game on Sept. 30 against Allen University.

CSU hits the road in week six to play at Miles College on Oct. 7.

Oct. 14 marks CSU’s official Homecoming celebration as the Marauders host Savannah State.

The Marauders travel to Atlanta on Oct. 21 to face the Clark Atlanta Panthers before returning home for Senior Day on Oct. 28 against Lane College.

The Marauders finish the regular season on the road at rival Kentucky State on Nov. 4.

“Our 2023 schedule features some marquee HBCU matchups and presents some great opportunities for us to showcase our talent,” Porter says. “We have two NCAA Div. I opponents to open the season as well as games against the top two SIAC teams from last year in Benedict and Tuskegee. We continue to work hard throughout the offseason towards building a championship calibur football program and look forward to the upcoming season.”

All Central State University home games are scheduled to kickoff at 1 pm. Additional kickoff times for away games will be announced later this spring. Ticket sales for all home CSU football games will begin in June.

Fans can get a preview of the 2023 Marauder football team on April 22 at 1 p.m. in McPherson Memorial Stadium when the program hosts it’s Spring Football Showcase.
