Ochs, Scohy, Smith get district honors

The Ohio Prep Sportswriters Associated released its All-Southwest District teams on Wednesday for girls basketball. Three Greene County athletes received top honors.

Carroll senior Sarah Ochs was named to the Division II first-team, with Yellow Springs senior Angie Smith being named D-IV second-team and Bellbrook sophomore Taylor Scohy making the D-I third-team.

Ochs was the leading scorer in the GCL at 17.1 points per game, scoring more than 20 on eight occassions. She also was the top free throw shooter in making 83 percent of her attempts, and ranked in the top-three in assists and steals within the league as well.

Smith, also the MBC and District 15 Player of the Year, became the all-time leading scorer at Yellow Springs after leading the conference in scoring for the fourth straight season. She had three triple-doubles this season and averaged 21.3 points and 8.7 rebounds.

Scohy was the SWBL Player of the Year and leading scorer on a top-10 ranked team in the state in the AP poll. Averaging 14.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 2.8 assists, she also shot above 60 percent from the field and was a top defender for the Golden Eagles.

Being named as D-I Honorable Mentions selections were Maci Rhoades of Beavercreek, and Ashley Frantz, Kelley Griffin, Alayna Meyer, Dreann Pryce and Olivia Trusty of Bellbrook.

Greeneview’s Ellie Snyder made D-III’s Honorable Mention list.

In D-IV, Ciara Horney and Molly Mossing of Cedarville, Legacy Christian’s Frances Park, and Aaliyah Longshaw and Corinne Totty of Yellow Springs were named Honorable Mention.
