Cool Zoo stops at Greene County Fair

XENIA — A cool zoo is visiting the Greene County Fair.

Literally.

Based out of Orlando, Fla., Cool Zoo Interactive Travel Exhibits — a family-owned-and-operated traveling wildlife encounter experience — made the long trip to Xenia with the mission of curating hands-on conservation, education, recreation, and research.

Jake from Snake Farm (Celebrity Snake); Exotic birds; Caiman crocodiles; Crabs for crab racing; Giant tortoise for tortoise encounter; and Educational water turtles are the animals that are a part of the exhibit.

In addition to animals, Cool Zoo has toys and stuffed animals.

“We are a national traveling zoo. We travel to fairs, zoos, theme parks, etc.,” Curator and Owner Jim DeBerry said. “Fairs hire talent all around the country at a national convention. They discuss what type of education will be the themes of the fair.”

DeBerry said Cool Zoo mixes education and entertainment and brings a lot to the fair and its attendees, no matter what age may be.

“We are a family-oriented exhibit. We are for all ages,” he said. “Animals are for all ages. We try to spread the love about animal conservation.”

DeBerry said Cool Zoo’s goal is to create education and entertainment through interactive experiences for animal conservation. While being at the fair, DeBerry said Cool Zoo has received a lot of feedback and interaction from the public.

“We’ve seen a lot of people loving animals,” DeBerry said. “A lot of people come out and want to support the community. There are a lot of smiling faces.”

After having to deal with COVID, DeBerry said people like being outdoors. He added that being in Greene County means a lot to him.

“For us, we want to be able to give back to the community,” DeBerry said. “We want to create memories that people will be able to retain information that can be given to others. The key is animal conservation.”

DeBerry said that Cool Zoo wants to come back to Greene County.

“The fair gets feedback from the community,” he said. “They vote on if we fit the theme of the fair. If we fit the theme, we get invited back or invited back in future years.”
