XENIA — Fairborn and Xenia wrestlers turned in some solid performances at the Miami Valley League tournament Friday.
Fairborn’s Brody Hayes was the champion at 132 pounds, while Xenia’s Jamell Smith won the 220 bracket.
Butler was the team champion with 253.5 points, followed by Tippecanoe 137.5, Sidney 124, Stebbins 75.5, Fairborn 70, Xenia and Piqua 58 each, Troy 49.5, Greenville 46.5, and West Carrollton 38.
Hayes had a fall in 3:30 in the semis and a 7-2 decision to win the championship after a first-round bye.
Smith defeated Fairborn’s Jay Ingram in the title match with a fall in 3:31. Hayes also had a pin in 50 seconds and a 9-5 decision, while Ingram had a 5-1 decision in the semis after a first-round bye.
Chris Martin of Fairborn was third at 106. He had a pin in 43 seconds in the third-place match. He also had a pin in zero seconds in his first match, according to the brackets.
DJ Ostrowske of Fairborn was third at 113, after a 9-7 OT win. He also had a 6-4 overtime win in a consolation match.
Cayden Burrell of Xenia was third at 126, defeating Fairborn’s Eithan Sorrells with a pin in 2:38. Burrell also had a pin in 4:11 in the consolations. Sorrells had a pin in 59 seconds in the consolations.
Xenia’s Kanden Pitman was third at 138. He had a fall in 2:22 in third-place match and also had pins in 58 seconds and 3:41 in the consolations.
