Sweet Corn Festival slated for this weekend

FAIRBORN — The smell of steamy cobs and nuggets smothered with salt melted butter will fill the air throughout the City of Fairborn over the weekend during its 36th Annual Sweet Corn Festival.

It is slated to take place 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19 and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20 at Community Park, 691 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Road. Parking and admission is free. Pets are permitted as long as they are leashed and their owners clean up after them.

The event is expected to showcase approximately 180 booths and food vendors, as well as pony rides, the big bounce and back-to-back entertainment acts throughout the festival. In addition to its food vendors, meal options include pork chop sandwiches, fresh-cut watermelon and, of course, steam-cooked sweet corn.

The steam engine, which will cook up the corn, is schedule to arrive at Community Park Friday, Aug. 18.

Pastor Craig and Leann Fourman, both active individuals in the city, have been crowned the Sweet Corn King and Queen. They have been Fairborn citizens for the last 25 years.

“This is the 36th Annual Fairborn Sweet Corn Festival and we would like to welcome everyone to our fair city,” Fairborn Mayor Dan Kirkpatrick said as he read a proclamation during the Aug. 7 regular council meeting that declared this week as Sweet Corn Festival Week throughout the city. “The Sweet Corn Festival is a two-day family oriented event where fun and good food are awaiting our citizens and citizens.”
