HALO 5K Fun Run/Walk set for Sept. 2

XENIA — The inaugural HALO (Helping Animals Lost & Orphaned) 5K Fun Run/Walk will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday Sept. 2 at Caesar Creek Vineyards LLC, 962 Long Road, in Xenia. Check-in and same-day registration will take place at 8:30 a.m. Registrants 21 and over will receive a free bottle of wine, courtesy of event sponsor Caesar Creek

Gathering of the Geezers at Kil-Kare

XENIA — The annual Gathering of the Geezers, old-time drag races, car show, hall of fame awards, and swap meet will take place Aug. 19 at Kil-Kare Dragway, 1166 Dayton-Xenia Road. Gates open at 9 a.m. Time runs start at 10 a.m. with racing set to begin at 3 p.m. Tech is closed at 2 p.m.

Fall basketball league at Beavercreek

BEAVERCREEK — The Beavercreek High School girls basketball program will be hosting its 18th annual girls basketball fall league. The games will be played on Sunday afternoons Sept. 10 through Oct. 22. All teams will play seven games on five Sundays with no games Sept. 17-24.

The league will have 12 high school teams ninth through 12th grade. There will be 8-10 girls per team, with only two players from each school on the same team. Dragons hosting Movie Night

DAYTON — The Dayton Dragons are hosting Donatos Family Movie Night on Saturday, Aug. 19 with a showing of “Trolls” (rated PG) on the 2,000-square-foot HD video board at Fifth Third Field. The gates for the event open at 6 p.m. and the movie will begin at 8 p.m. Families are invited to bring a blanket and find a spot on the stadium’s outfield grass and enjoy a night of fun at the ballpark.

Groups are advised to arrive early to secure a great spot in the outfield grass and also to enjoy the festivities before the movie begins. Children will get to meet Dragons mascots Heater and Gem, enjoy inflatable games, participate in skits with the Green Team and eat ballpark food.

Reds hosting African American c0mmunity night

CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Reds will host African American Community Night at Great American Ball Park 7:10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, when they take on the Pittsburgh Pirates.

An exclusive “Dad Hat” party will be held in the Fioptics District, which includes a free Reds dad hat, a rooftop party deck with a deejay from WOSL-FM 100.3; one free beverage; and a general admission ticket in the Fioptics District, all for $20. Reds host “Sliding into Om” yoga

CINCINNATI — The annual “Sliding into Om” one-hour yoga session will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26 on the outfield grass at Great American Ball Park .

Sliding into Om, presented by St. Elizabeth Healthcare, features instructors from The Yoga Bar and fans have two packages to choose from:

• $15 – Includes yoga on the field and a View Level ticket to the Aug. 27 Cincinnati Reds vs. Pittsburgh Pirates game (1:10 p.m.) with a special recognition to all yogis during the seventh inning stretch.

• $25 – Includes an exclusive Reds yoga mat plus all of the above

Registration and check-in will start at 7:45 a.m. with the yoga session beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Ages 12 and younger may participate in the yoga event for free, if accompanied by a paying adult.

Reds Museum offering Parker bobblehead

CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame & Museum’s 2017 bobblehead series, presented by Dinsmore & Shohl LLP, continues in August with Reds Hall of Famer Dave Parker.

One of the most intimidating hitters of his era, outfielder Dave “The Cobra” Parker became the first major free agent acquisition in Reds history when he was signed by the club in December of 1983. Over the next four seasons, Parker was a fixture in the middle of the Reds lineup. The Reds Most Valuable Player each season from 1984–86, Parker was also a two-time NL All-Star, a two-time Sporting News All-Star and winner of two Silver Slugger Awards during his Reds career. Parker finished second in voting for league MVP honors in 1985 and ranked fifth in the MVP vote in 1986. A longtime resident of Cincinnati and currently an instructor at the P&G Cincinnati MLB Youth Academy in Roselawn, Parker was inducted into the Reds Hall of Fame in 2014.

The bobbleheads are free with regular-price admission to the Reds Hall of Fame beginning Aug. 4 and will be available Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays throughout the month of August, while supplies last.
