WPAFB celebrating Bee City designation

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE — Wright-Patterson Air Force Base will host a pollinator expo to celebrate Wright-Patterson Air Force Base’s designation as a Bee City USA.

The event is slated for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 21 at the Wright Brothers Memorial off of Kauffman Ave. by Area B.

Bee City USA is a program for communities to pledge their commitment to reverse the threats currently facing pollinators and to raise awareness and enhance habitats for the bee population.

Wright-Patterson Air Force base will be the first military installation to be designated as a Bee City USA.

The Pollinator Expo will kick off with a reading of the Bee City USA resolution by 88th Air Base Wing Vice Director Rebecca Westlake. More than 25 organizations ranging from parks to colleges across the state will be in attendance highlighting their efforts to address the decline of pollinators. In addition, attendees can talk to the beekeepers, check out a live demonstration hive and grab a bite to eat from onsite food trucks.

This event is open to the public. In the event of inclement weather, the expo will be rescheduled to Wednesday, June 28.
