FAIRBORN — Officer Joshua Lightner has been sworn in as the newest member of the Fairborn Police Department due to a current vacancy in the officer ranks.
Lightner obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Wright State University in 2012. He went on to graduate from the Sinclair Criminal Justice Academy in November 2016, obtaining his Ohio Peace Officers Certification. He received the silver medal in education while in the Police Academy.
Lightner has been employed as a corrections officer since October 2013 for the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
“While working at the Sheriff’s Office, I was able to talk with a lot of people and I found I wanted to help others through public relations and community service,” said Lightner. “Helping others motivated me to want to become an officer; I am very driven and disciplined and ready for the challenge and responsibility that comes with serving my community.”
Lightner is currently a resident of Huber Heights where his father, Mark Lightner is Chief of Police. He will begin his initial 18 weeks of field training immediately.
