Bulldogs fall to Ansonia

ANSONIA — The hot Tigers outscored Yellow Springs by two points in three of the four quarters in Saturday’s girls high school basketball game, and that was enough for Ansonia to claim a 54-48 win. Elizabeth Smith led the Bulldogs with 19 points, Morgan Minnich scored 11 points and Julian Roberts added 10 for Yellow Springs (3-2), who will next play at 5 p.m. at Dayton Spring Valley.

Knights lose to Catholic Central

XENIA — Visiting Springfield Catholic Central held a 45-20 lead at halftime, then held on for Saturday’s boys basketball win. No individual statistics were reported. Xenia Legacy Christian is now 2-2 overall. The Knights will host Metro Buckeye League opponent Springfield Emmanuel Christian at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13.

Stebbins stymies Skyhawks

RIVERSIDE — Visiting Fairborn scored their lowest point total of the season, Saturday, in a 48-32 girls basketball loss at Stebbins High School. Kaylie Cook and Evelyn Oktavec scored 11 and 10 points respectively for the Skyhawks (0-5, 0-2 Greater Western Ohio Conference, American South), and Jana Brown-Griffith (five points), Chloe Johnson (three), Khala Powell (two) and Kirsten George (one) combined for Fairborn’s other 11 points. Fairborn will host West Carrollton at 7 p.m. in the Baker Middle School gymnasium on Wednesday.

Stebbins (3-1, 2-0 GWOC American South) was led by Bryanna Sansford’s game-high 20-point effort, and Indians teammate Madison Cook finished with 12 points.

Warrior defense shuts down Xenia

LEBANON — After grabbing a narrow 18-15 lead after the first quarter of play, host Lebanon limited Xenia to 17 points scored for the rest of the game in Saturday’s 58-32 win. Lebanon’s Rachel Perry led all scorers with 16 points while teammates Alexis Straw and Alex Warning scored 10 each for the Warriors (5-0, 1-0 GWOC National West).

Trinity Morton-Nooks led the Buccaneers (0-6, 0-1 GWOC American South), who are back in action when they will host Trotwood-Madison at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Golden Eagles fly over Franklin

FRANKLIN — Bellbrook remained undefeated in Southwestern Buckeye League Southwestern Division girls basketball play with Saturday’s 70-45 road win over host Franklin. Bekah Vine led the Golden Eagles (3-2, 2-0 SWBL Southwestern) with 21 points scored, while teammate Cassidy Hofacker also got into double-figure scoring with 18. Hofacker also recorded eight steals. Bellbrook hosted Clayton Northmont on Monday night in a nonleague game. They will host Southwestern Division foe Monroe at 1:15 p.m. Saturday for their next game.

LCA outscored in second half

XENIA — Host Xenia Legacy Christian Academy led 28-18 over Dayton Christian at halftime, but the visiting Warriors outscored the Knights, 50-30 in the second half to rally for Friday’s boys basketball win. No individual statistics were available for Legacy Christian (2-2, 0-1 Metro Buckeye Conference). The Knights will host Springfield Emmanuel Christian at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 13. Dayton Christian’s Matt Welker led the Warriors 1-2, 1-0 MBC) with 24 points.

Skyhawks sink Tippecanoe

FAIRBORN — Alyssa Lewis rolled a match-bet 460 two-game series while Audrey Renner (363), Hannah Borchert (359) and Shyann Predmore (311) each rolled 300 series in Friday’s 2,102 to 1,438 girls high school bowling win. Ashlyn Herzog led Tippecanoe with a 273 two-game series.

Fairborn (1-0) hosted Vandalia Butler on Monday. The Skyhawks’ next scheduled match is set for 4 p.m. at home Thursday, Dec. 15 at Bowl 10 Lanes against Troy.

Tippecanoe grounds Skyhawks

FAIRBORN — J.T. Cherpeski may have rolled a match-high 482 two-game series on Friday, but Tipp City Tippecanoe had two bowlers (Nick Lanham and James Ridgeway) roll 400-series for a 2,090 to 1,966 Tippecanoe win. Like the girls team (see above), Fairborn hosted Butler on Monday, and is scheduled to host Troy at 4 p.m. Thursday at Bowl 10 Lanes in Fairborn.

Indians nip Xenia

RIVERSIDE — Host Riverside Stebbins outscored the Xenia High boys basketball team 17-11 in the final quarter of play to rally for a 56-51 win, Friday. The loss overshadowed a 31-point scoring performance from Xenia’s Samari Curtis who was playing for the first time this season, after sitting out the team’s first two games with an injury. Xenia is now 1-2 overall (0-1 in the Greater Western Ohio Conference’s American South Division). They’ll play at Trotwood-Madison at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16.

Beavers win in overtime

BEAVERCREEK — The Beavercreek Beavers boys basketball team edge visiting Springfield 8-7 in the four-minute overtime period of Friday’s game to claim a 70-69 win at the Zink Fieldhouse. Jon Alessandro led Beavercreek (3-0, 1-0 GWOC American East) with 19 points scored. Cedric Baldwin turned in a double-double with 17 points scored and 11 rebounds, Evan Saylor scored 13 points from off the bench, and Peyton Young finished with a dozen points in the win. The Beavers next play at Huber Heights Wayne at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13.

Bellbrook wins in Eaton

EATON — The visiting Golden Eagles boys basketball team jumped out to a 28-18 lead at halftime, dominated the third quarter to extend the lead to 50-29, and wound up with a convincing 66-45 win, Friday at Eaton High School.

Donnie Crouch led Bellbrook with a game-high 23 points. Bellbrook (1-1, 1-1 SWBL Southwestern) will host Franklin at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16.

Legacy Christian upends Greeneview

JAMESTOWN — Jacob Black rolled a 262 two-game series to lead the Knights to a 1,655 to 1,489 bowling win over Greeneview on Friday. Michael Fisher rolled a 217 two-game series, and Andrew Short had a 205 two-gamer. LCA is now 2-1 overall, 0-1 in the Metro Buckeye Conference). They rolled against MBC foe Emmanuel Christian on Tuesday, and will head to Poelking South Lanes at 4:30 p.m Thursday, Dec. 15 for another MBC battle, this time with Miami Valley.

Spartans rally past Carroll

RIVERSIDE — After trailing 30-18 at halftime, visiting Saint Bernard Roger Bacon outscored the host Carroll Patriots 34-16 in the second half for Friday’s 52-46 win.

Carroll’s T.K. Robinson scored a game-high 14 points in the loss. The Patriots hosted Urbana, Tuesday night. They’ll travel to Cincinnati Purcell Marian for a 7:30 p.m. game Friday, Dec. 16.

Xenia Athletic Hall of Fame ceremonies set

XENIA — The 2016 class of inductees to the Xenia Hall of Fame will be introduced at the Jan. 13, 2017 Xenia High School boys varsity basketball game. This is the sixth class to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

The 2016 Hall of Fame class — consisting of William “Bill” Wilson (track, and cross country coach 1954-‘79), Dr. David Hazel (football, track, class of 1970), Erin Hawley (swimming, 2008), Kristi Cope Elsman (soccer, basketball, 1993), Nick Ungard (golf, basketball, 1952), Richard Bennett (educator, coach, civic leader, 2016); Shawn Thigpen (basketball, track, 1993), Steve Smith (wrestling, 1988) and the 1985-‘86 XHS wrestling team — will attend the induction ceremony, which is set for 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017 at Faith Community United Methodist Church, 100 Country Club Drive.
