ENON – The Greenon High School choir and a crowd of village residents bundled up, faced the frosty air and sang “Here Comes Santa Claus” as the jolly big guy arrived at the Enon Log House Dec. 3.

Escorted by Enon Police, Santa waved from Tim Archibald’s tow truck that transported him to the annual holiday event, prompting emotions of joy and merriment from many local children. Enon Community Historical Society President Tim DeVore greeted Santa and escorted him to a special spot for the official lighting of the village Christmas tree.

Enon Knob Prairie United Church of Christ Pastor Robert Jencks gave the invocation, and DeVore, who was also chosen as the 2015 Enon Citizen of the Year, joined Santa as he switched on the sparkling lights that adorned the village tree. Santa then made his way to the log house, where he met up with Santa’s helpers, Emily Adkins and Brook Lamb, and greeted excited youngsters throughout the evening.

Village residents also enjoyed hot chocolate, cider and cookies as they gathered at the Mike Barry Research Center to listen to the musical entertainment of John McElroy, who played a number of Christmas favorites on his keyboard. Visitors also had a chance to view a display of stained glass items created by Enon resident Ziggy Ziegenthaler.

The holiday event is sponsored annually by the Enon Community Historical Society.

Santa, along with Mrs. Claus, will return Friday, Dec. 9 for the Enon/Mad River Township Fire and EMS Santa Parade, which will start 6 p.m. The department will be sending out live updates of Santa’s location on its Twitter page, @EnonFireAssoc.
