CEDARVILLE — Cedarville University senior Abby Shelton is the Sports Imports/ American Volleyball Coaches Association Division II National Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week.
It’s the first time a Jacket player has earned the national award since the school became an active NCAA Division II member.
Additionally, Shelton was selected the National Christian College Athletic Association Division I National Player of the Week and the Great Midwest Athletic Association Player of the Week.
A 5-foot-10 outside hitter from Sparta, Ga., Shelton guided the Yellow Jackets to a 3-0 week and sole possession of first place in the conference.
In 10 sets played, she pounded 51 kills with just eight errors in 97 attempts for a .442 attack percentage.
Shelton added 31 digs, seven service aces, five blocks, and received 38 serves without an error. She buried a season-high 24 kills in a four-set victory over Bellarmine.
Her 14 kills and 17 digs sparked a three-set sweep of defending G-MAC champion Trevecca Nazarene and she tallied 13 kills in another sweep of Kentucky Wesleyan.
Cedarville is 19-7 overall. The Jackets resume play at 7 p.m. on Tuesday with a G-MAC contest at Ohio Valley University, in Vienna W. Va.
