Children Services to screen movie for Adoption Month

Greene County News

XENIA — In celebration of National Adoption Month, Greene County Children Services will host a special free screening of Martian Child at the Little Art Theatre in Yellow Springs on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 1 p.m.

Anyone interested in learning more about adoption is encouraged to attend, as a variety of information will be available. Children Services foster and adoption caseworkers, along with adoptive families, will also be on hand to answer questions.

Children of all ages are welcome to attend the movie with their parents. Everyone, adults and children, will be admitted for free.

“We thought this would be a great movie to show for a celebration of adoptive families” said Jessica Wilson, a Wendy’s Wonderful Kids Recruiter working for Greene County Children Services. “The characters are quirky and the movie contains a lot of humor. Overall, it’s a very touching story of a young boy with certain issues and an adoptive father with certain issues finding each other and becoming a family.”

During the past two years, Greene County Children Services has facilitated the adoptions of more than 20 Greene County children. There are currently 24 children in the agency’s permanent custody that are awaiting adoption.

“We believe all children need and deserve permanent families, no matter how young or old they are and regardless of their history,” said Beth Rubin, Yellow Springs resident and Director of Greene County Department of Job & Family Services. “Research shows that being part of a loving, supportive permanent family is crucial to a child’s well-being and his or her ability to grow up healthy and happy.”

The Little Art Theatre is located at 247 Xenia Ave in Yellow Springs.
