FAIRBORN — Fairborn City Schools is highlighting its graduates, including Mary Haney and Jeremy Curd.

Shortly after the pair graduated in 2008 and 2009, respectively, the two became married. Jeremy then joined the United States Air Force, serving as an air traffic controller from August 2010 until August 2016. He later separated as a staff sergeant after fulfilling a six-year enlistment.

Jeremy was awarded “Air Traffic Controller of the year” two times for Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in 2014 and 2015. After his time in the service, he accepted a job as a defense contractor in the Middle East where he is currently working as an air traffic control tower supervisor. This entails ensuring all services and separation provided to the pilots are safe and in accordance with air traffic control regulations.

However, he hope to be able to land a job with the Federal Aviation Administration in the near future so that he can be home with his family. Jeremy said Mary has the far more important job between the pair — staying home with their two boys Jason, 6, and Jaxon, 4. He said she keeps them in line and gets them where they need to be for school functions, sports games and practices as well as other appointments.

“She has sacrificed a lot to keep our family well taken care of,” Jeremy writes. “Mary is very good at what she does and I only wish she could get formal awards as well.”
