Beavercreek boys win poll title
BEAVERCREEK — The Beavercreek boys soccer team won the Miami Valley Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association Division-I poll title. The Beavers had 50 points, finishing eight ahead of no. 2 Springboro. Xenia (13 points) was ninth.
The Carroll boys finished second in the D-II poll with 54 Points. Kettering Alter was no. 1 with 60 points. Bellbrook and Chaminade-Julienne tied for fourth with 36 points. Yellow Springs was fourth in the boys D-III poll with 44 points. Dayton Christian was no. 1 with 68 points.
Beavercreek’s girls were second in the final D-I poll, nine points behind Springboro, which received 60 points. Xenia, which beat Fairborn, 3-0, Oct. 13, was eighth with 19 points.
Carroll was tied for second with Tipp City Tippecanoe in the D-II poll. Each had 33 points, six behind no. 1 Alter. Bellbrook was fifth with 21 points.
Beavers volleyball swept by Elks
BEAVERCREEK — Beavercreek’s girls volleyball team finished second in the Greater Western Ohio Conference National East Division after losing a three-set match to Centerville, Oct. 13. Had the Beavers won, they would have tied the Elks for the title. The scores were 16-25, 18-25, 18-25. Beavercreek ends the regular season 14-8 overall and 9-3 in the GWOC.
Bellbrook blanks Eaton
BELLBROOK — Bellbrook’s girls soccer team beat Eaton, 5-0, Oct. 13 to improve to 9-3-3 overall and 9-1-2 in the Southwestern Buckeye League Southwestern Division. Bellbrook is assured of no worse than second place in the division, and if Germantown Valley View beats Monroe on Saturday, Oct. 15, all three teams will share the division title. If Monroe wins or ties, it will be the outright champ. Bellbrook is at Clayton Northmont Saturday in non-league action.
Xenia tops Fairborn in volleyball
FAIRBORN — Xenia closed the volleyball regular season with a 21-25, 22-25, 25-18, 25-19, 15-13 win over Fairborn, Oct. 13. Xenia, which won the Greater Western Ohio Conference American South division, enters the post-season 10-12 overall and 8-6 in league play. Fairborn finished 6-14 overall and 5-9 in the division, tied for second place with Riverside Stebbins. Taylor Rice led Fairborn with 14 kills, while Cloe Snyder had 10 and Jessica Black seven. Kayleigh Finlayson had 23 digs and four aces. Hannah Borchert had nine aces, while Elena North had four, and Taylor Soulati and Maddie Blandino three each.

Cedarville draws with Salem
CEDARVILLE — Cedarville University scored the tying goal late in regulation and settled for a 1-1 draw against visiting Salem International in a non-conference men’s soccer game on Oct. 13.
The Yellow Jackets, 5-6-2, nearly pulled out the victory, but failed to convert a penalty kick with nine seconds remaining in the second overtime.
Bryce Childers’ header in the 83rd minute leveled the match on an assist from Joel Fullmer. The Tigers took an early 1-0 lead poking in a corner kick in the 5th minute. Salem had the edge in shots overall, 13-12, as well as on goal, 7-6. However, Cedarville out-shot SIU 10-5 combined in the second half and overtimes. Paulo Pinto logged all 110 minutes in goal while turning in six saves.
The Tigers were whistled for 22 fouls plus were shown eight yellow cards and one red. CU acquired 15 fouls and one yellow card.
Arrows pin 3-1 setback on Cedarville
PEPPER PIKE — Ursuline halted the Yellow Jackets’ four-game unbeaten streak with a 3-1 result in Great Midwest Athletic Conference women’s soccer action on Oct. 13. The Arrows got on the board first with an unassisted goal in the 6th minute.
Hannah Atkinson responded in the 15th minute leveling the match with her team-leading seventh goal of the season. Creslyn Van Dyck was credited with her team-high eighth assist. Ursuline took the lead for good with just 1:21 left to go in the half. The hosts tacked on an insurance goal in the 80th minute as Cedarville drops to 5-7-1 overall and 5-4-1 G-MAC.
CSU teams find success at home
WILBERFORCE — The Central State men’s and women’s cross country teams competed against rival Kentucky State during Wednesday afternoon’s dual meet.
In the men’s race, CSU took the first three spots. Emmanuel Birgen won with a time of 19:31. Kamren Perrin finished in second with a pace of 23:01.7, followed by Sam Grate’s time of 23:05.3.
Cidni Latimer finished first in the women’s race. The senior ran across the finish line with a time of 26:14.2.
Central State hopes to carry some positive momentum into next Friday’s Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships in Rock Hill, S.C.

Hockey holding alumni golf outing
BEAVERCREEK — The 2016-17 season marks the 20th anniversary of the Beavercreek varsity hockey program and in celebration, the program will hold the first Beavercreek Varsity Hockey Alumni Friends & Family Golf Scramble. It will be held Saturday, Oct. 22 at Locust Hills Golf Course in Springfield. Meet the FHS girls basketball team
FAIRBORN — The Fairborn girls basketball team will be introduced from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5 in the Fairborn Baker Middle School Gymnasium. The Fairborn Skyhawks youth basketball teams, Baker Middle School seventh- and eighth-grade teams, Fairborn High School junior varsity and the Fairborn varsity team will all be introduced to the public and will demonstrate their skills. There will be concessions available, a 50/50 raffle, prizes and more.
