Raising the roof

SPRINGFIELD — Dove Pentecostal Assembly will host a southern gospel concert at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct 15 at the church 424 Soth Fountain Ave. The concert is to help raise $11,000 needed for a new roof for the church.

Singing will be three local groups, all from the Miami Valley. At least one of them has gotten some national attention and lots of air time on southern gospel radio. That’s the Gibbons Family. Grace Rain and Master Sounds are both very talented groups and will sing the glory down.

UU Fellowship program

YELLOW SPRINGS – The Unitarian Universalists Fellowship of Yellow Springs will present “A Heroine for All Ages” beginning 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 16 by Rev. Ann Fox, Minister Emerita of the Unitarian Memorial Church, Fairhaven, Mass. In the 1960s and 1970s, at a time when the United States was in the midst of war, a woman who called herself “Peace Pilgrim” (as her first and last names) walked the highways and byways of the US and Canada with only the clothes on her back and her dark blue tunic emblazoned with “Peace Pilgrim.” She talked about peace with anyone who would listen and at many UU congregations, and still inspires people all over the world to walk and work for peace.

The UU of Yellow Springs invites the community to hear her story and ponder their own. Youth programming is available for those in preschool through sixth grade. Coffee, tea, snacks and chatting will take place beginning at 11:45. A social justice committee meeting will follow beginning at noon.

Central Ave. For more information call the church at 937-878-5701 or email [email protected].
