‘Creek girls win

BEAVERCREEK — Beavercreek’s girls varsity soccer team beat Tipp City Tippecanoe High School, 5-0, on Oct. 10. The Beavers were scheduled to wrap up their regular season Oct. 12 at Centerville, before opening sectional tournament play at 7 p.m. Oct. 18 at home against Franklin.

FHS falls to Beavers

FAIRBORN — Fairborn’s girls volleyball team fell to Beavercreek High School, 25-8, 25-14, 25-16, on Oct. 11 in a Greater Western Ohio Conference matchup. Fairborn started slow and couldn’t make up the points at the finish. Leading the team in kills was Taylor Rice with 10, Jessica Black had two. Defensively, Fairborn was led by Kayleigh Finlayson with 18 digs. Kayleigh, Rice, Hannah Borchert and Maddie Blandino all had one service ace each. Fairborn (6-13, 5-8 GWOC American South) closes out its regular season schedule at 7 p.m. Oct. 13 with a home match against Xenia. Beavercreek (14-7, 9-2 in the GWOC National East) plays at 7 p.m., Oct. 13 at Centerville.

Beavercreek beats Centerville

BEAVERCREEK — The Beavercreek boys soccer team beat Centerville, 4-0 on Oct. 11, to clinch the Greater Western Ohio Conference’s National East division title. Goals were scored by Vince Young (2), Joshua Fleck and Evan Williams. Assists were by Dominic Calabrese (2), Joe Jennings and Fleck. Beavercreek finished the regular season with a 13-1-1 overall mark, and was 7-0-1 in GWOC National East play. The loss was Centerville’s first against National East competition. The Elks finished second in the division with a 7-5-4 overall record, 5-1-2 in the GWOC National East.

Bulldogs hope to clinch tonight

YELLOW SPRINGS — The Yellow Springs girls varsity volleyball team will be out to defend their Metro Buckeye Conference Championship on Thursday, Oct. 13 at Yellow Springs High School when they play against Middletown Christian. Game time is 6 (ish) p.m. Yellow Springs is currently 8-1 in the MBC, one game ahead in the standings over Emmanuel Christian and Troy Christian. A win over Middletown Christian would clinchthe title for the Bulldogs. This is also Yellow Springs’ Senior Night for both volleyball and boys soccer. The boys home soccer game against Dayton Christian begins at 7 p.m.

WSU ties Va. Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. — The Wright State men’s soccer team matched no. 15 Virginia Tech on Oct. 11. As the Raiders battled the Hokies they ended the match up with a 1-1 tie at Thompson Field.

Hockey holding alumni golf outing

BEAVERCREEK — The 2016-17 season marks the 20th anniversary of the Beavercreek varsity hockey program and in celebration, the program will hold the first Beavercreek Varsity Hockey Alumni Friends & Family Golf Scramble. It will be held Saturday, Oct. 22 at Locust Hills Golf Course in Springfield. Included with the $80 entry fee are 18 holes of golf, cart, driving range, box lunch, dinner, and the chance to participate in a silent auction, raffle, and some fun games and competitions on and off the course. Dinner without golf is $20.

Registration and use of the driving range starts 11:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Dinner and awards will be at approximately 6 p.m. highlighted by the introduction of the new Beavercreek varsity hockey head coach and former U.S. Air Force Academy NCAA Division I player, Brig. Meet the FHS girls basketball team

FAIRBORN — The Fairborn girls basketball team will be introduced from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5 in the Fairborn Baker Middle School Gymnasium. The Fairborn Skyhawks youth basketball teams, Baker Middle School seventh- and eighth-grade teams, Fairborn High School junior varsity and the Fairborn varsity Team will all be introduced to the public and will demonstrate their skills. There will be concessions available, a 50/50 raffle, prizes and more.
