Golf district tourneys today
Carroll sophomore Tyler Goecke and the Beavercreek boys golf team of Alex Flick, Josh Sutton, Brandon DeWitt, Brian Gschiedle and Colton Carter will be competing in the Division I district golf tournament, Tuesday, Oct. 11 at the Beavercreek Golf Club, for a chance to advance to the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s state tournament. Oct. 21 in Columbus.
In the D-I girls district tournament, Beavercreek freshman Sarah O’Conner will compete, Tuesday, Oct. 11 at Glenview Golf Course in Cincinnati for her shot at qualifying to the state tournament.
Locally, the Carroll girls golf team of Brittney Blaschak, Haley Hentrich, Grace Mackey, Hannah Davis, and Mackenzie Donaldson have already qualified to the Division II state meet, which will be held Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 13-14 in Columbus.
Greeneview posts easy win
JAMESTOWN — The Greeneview Rams darted out to a 21-7 lead en route to a 44-14 win over Springfield Northeastern in football action n Friday, Oct. 7.
The Rams (6-1 overall, 4-0 Ohio Heritage Conference) led 38-7 at the half. Northeastern actually scored first, but the Rams answered with a a 32-yard pass from Collin Matt to Collin Wilson, a 15-yard run by Griffin Mangan, and a 5-yard run by Jacob Green.
Green ran for a 3-yard score in the second quarter, and Matt hit Ian Tamplin with a 12-yard pass to increase the lead to 35-7. A 19-yard field goal by Bryce Wilson closed the first-half scoring.
Green scored his third touchdown early in the fourth quarter, running in from 6 yards.
Offensive stats were not available, but Tyler Robinette and Tommy Smith each had six tackles to lead the defense. Isaiah Harding had two sacks.
Beavers remain state ranked
COLUMBUS — The Beavercreek boys soccer team dropped a couple spots in the Division I boys soccer state poll despite not losing. The Beavers are seventh with 44 points. They had been fifth the past few polls. Cleveland St. Ignatius is a unanimous no. 1 with 100 points. Carroll is back in the D II state poll after being mysteriously out of the top 10 last week. Carroll is ninth with 14 points. Columbus St. Francis DeSales is no. 1 with 100 points.
Carroll’s girls remain in the top 10 in the D-II poll, ranking sixth with 39 points. Cincinnati McNicholas is no. 1 with 100 points.
Beavers blank Westerville North
BEAVERCREEK — Ryan Bernt had two goals and Tyler Dayhoff and Jonah Ackerson had one each as Beavercreek improved to 12-1-1 with a 4-0 win over Westerville North, on Saturday, Oct. 8. Dominic Calabrese had a pair of assists, while Nicholas Togliatti had one. Beavercreek hosts Centerville on Tuesday, Oct. 11 with a Greater Western Ohio Conference division title at stake.
Greeneview girls beat Franklin-Monroe
JAMESTOWN — McKyna Woods had a goal and an assist to lead Greeneview to a 2-1 win over Franklin-Monroe on Thursday, Oct. 8. Hailee Brown had a goal, while Hannah Ferrell had an assist.
Greeneview sweeps Madison Plains
JAMESTOWN — Greeneview’s varsity and reserve volleyball team swept Madison Plains on Thursday, Oct. 8, each winning in straight sets. The varsity won, 25-23, 25-22, 25-22, as Ashley Schloss had seven kills, four blocks and an ace. Kaitlyn Schloss added seven digs, five kills and an ace, while Caitlin Sweat had five kills and five blocks. Makayla Smith added five kills, four digs and a block, while Brianna Seigfried had 22 assists and an ace.
The reserves won, 25-12, 25-12.
Bellbrook runs well at Anna Invite
ANNA — Bellbrook’s boys ran second and the girls sixth (without their top six runners) at the Anna Cross Country Invitational, on Saturday, Oct. 8. As a combined team, Bellbrook was second overall to West Chester Lakota West.
Cincinnati La Salle’s boys won with 35 points, while Bellbrook had 94 points. Justin Boreman was fifth overall in 16:35.3, while Connor Robinson ran 12th in 16:49. Nico Taylor was 18th in 17:01, Trevor Vowers 26th in 17:18.8 and Cole Weslow 33rd in 17:31.5.
Lakota West won the girls race with 33 points. Bellbrook had 204 with all runners in the top 50 for scoring purposes. Maddie Crane ran 26th in 21:03, but for scoring she was 23rd because of three individuals not on complete teams. Amira Faulkner was 53rd in 22:01.5 but was scored 41st. Minami Ford was 55th in 22:02.2 and was scored 43rd, while Jennifer Winn was 63rd in 22:16,8, 47th for scoring. Mara Fleck ran 69th in 22:30.4 but was 50th for scoring.
MIDDLE SCHOOL
Greeneview splits with Southeastern
JAMESTOWN — Greeneview’s seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams split a pair of matches with Springfield Southeastern over the weekend. The eighth graders won, 14-25, 26-24, 25-10. Kimmy Robinette led the team with 25 digs and 22 points, while Elizabeth Reichley had 13 digs and six points. Rachel Strickle chipped in eight digs and six points, Leah Hoyle 13 digs and Klarissa Knisley 11 digs.
The seventh grade team lost, 15-25, 14-25. Sarah Trisel led the team with seven digs and six points, while Marissa Kincaid had six digs and five points. Brilea Bishop had 10 digs and Kelsey Marsden had six, while Ellie Harlow added three points.
COLLEGE
Marauders beat Lane
TUSKEGEE, Ala. — The Central State Marauders women’s volleyball team ended the first day of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’sWest Cluster tournament with a 3-0 win over Lane College on Oct. 7.
CSU cruised through the first two sets, winning 25-13 and 25-15. Lane appeared poised to extend the match after taking a 24-21 lead in the third set, but the Marauders rallied for the next four points and successfully closed out the match with a 27-25 win.
LaKendra Worthy led all players with 12 kills. Freshman Yasmene Leath finished with nine kills and two blocks. Regine Harris recorded four aces and 14 assists. Kyrah Leah came up big defensively with 14 digs.
Jackets enjoy 3-0 result
CEDARVILLE — Hannah Atkinson scored two goals and Creslyn Van Dyck tallied three assists as Cedarville blanked Alderson Broaddus, 3-0, in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference game on Senior Day, Saturday, Oct. 8. The Yellow Jackets women’s soccer team, 5-6-1 overall and 5-3-1 G-MAC, won their third straight and extended their unbeaten string to four in a row.
Playing downwind in the first half, Atkinson poked in a chip from Van Dyck in the 20th minute. Danielle Mahek gave Cedarville some breathing room in the 77th minute when she received a through ball from Van Dyck and put away a high finish. Atkinson completed the scoring in the 83rd. Van Dyck tightroped the end line and laid the ball off for what resulted in the freshman’s sixth goal of the year. Hanna Harris was credited with four saves and posted her 27th career shutout.
Early goals propel Jackets
CEDARVILLE — Sebastian Duque and Bryce Childers scored twice within two minutes as Cedarville knocked off Alderson Broaddus, 2-1, in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference men’s soccer encounter on Saturday, Oct. 8.
Duque headed in his second goal of the season in the 10th minute from John Schwien off a set piece near the right corner following an AB foul. Exactly two minutes later, Schwien’s corner kick from the left flag found the head of Childers 6 yards out for a 2-0 lead.
The score stayed that way until the Battlers took advantage of a steal and scored in the 75th minute to account for the final. Alderson Broaddus out-shot the hosts 19-15, including 13-7 in the second period. The Battlers also put more on goal, 9-7. Paulo Pinto matched his career-high with eight saves for the Yellow Jackets, 5-6-1 overall and 4-3-1 G-MAC.
CU blitzes Malone
CEDARVILLE — Cedarville used a balanced attack to defeat Great Midwest Athletic Conference foe Malone in three sets on Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Callan Athletic Center. The Yellow Jackets women’s volleyball team needed 63 minutes to win by scores of 25-11, 25-10, 25-22.
Gabby Olson, Krissy Pratt, and Abby Shelton hammered nine kills apiece for CU, 14-4 overall and 4-1 G-MAC. Olson also turned aside five blocks. Taylor Wilkerson had three blocks to go along with six kills. Kristin Cardwell totaled 30 assists and chipped in seven kills, qne Angela Becker had 11 digs.
Koch, Cedarville 3rd at Parkside
SOMERS, Wis. — Carsyn Koch finished third to lead the U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association’s Division II no. 7 Cedarville Yellow Jackets women’s cross country team to a third-place showing, Saturday Oct. 8, at the Wisconsin-Parkside Invitational. The 12-team meet was staged at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course.
The junior from Washburn, Maine was timed in 22:24 for the 6,000 meters in what was her second race of the season. There were 172 total competitors. Christy Jesson (22:51) was eighth, while Nicole Perez (23:05) placed ninth. Both marks were career bests in the 6K run. Kacy Dunn came in 18th in 23:40 and Carly Rose was 23rd in 23:47. Rachel Groh (25th; 23:48), and Mary Kearney (28th; 23:56) closed out CU’s top seven.
Host Wisconsin-Parkside won the meet with 42 points. Illinois-Chicago was the runner-up with 52 points and the the Cedarville women’s team totaled 58.
Hartman leads Yellow Jackets
ROMEOVILLE, Ill. — Wyatt Hartman turned in a career-best 8,000-meter run on Saturday Oct. 8. at the Lewis Conference Cross-Over to pace Cedarville to a ninth-place finish. Hartman was timed 25:37 and crossed the line 34th overall. His previous Personal Record of 26:19 was set at the 2015 All-Ohio Championship.
Matthew Pelletier was 45th out of 184 competitors in 25:55. Ethan Sullivan placed 64th in 26:14. Grand Valley State won the 14-team meet with 21 points while runner-up Southern Indiana had 80. The Yellow Jackets totaled 236 points. Alec Weinhold finished 75th in 26:29 while Zac Bowen was 80th in 26:36. Rounding out CU’s top seven were Jared Vega (83rd; 26:40) and Alex Weber (86th; 26:43).
Swim team falls to Miami
FAIRBORN — The Wright State men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams hosted Miami on Saturday, Oct. 8 as the WSU men fell 131-110 and the women lost 190-51.
The men were led by first-place finishes from P.J. Musser (200-meter freestyle), Bradford Johnson (50 free), Dominic Poletta (100 butterfly), Thomas Downey (500 free), Mitchell Godar (3-meter diving) and the 200 medley relay team. The women were paced by a first-place finish from Ashlyn Roberts (50 free).
The Raiders will next be in action on Saturday, Oct. 22, at Indiana University Purdue University-Indianapolis.

Men’s soccer edges Oakland
OAKLAND, Mich. — A Peguy Ngatcha goal late in the first half proved to be the difference as the Wright State men’s soccer team picked up a 1-0 Horizon League win on Saturday, Oct. 8, at Oakland.
Volleyball rallies for win
FAIRBORN — After dropping the first two sets, the Wright State volleyball team rallied from there, winning the final three sets to defeat Valparaiso in Horizon League action Saturday Oct. 8 at the C.J. McLin Gymnasium.
Women defeat Valparaiso
FAIRBORN — An Ellie Ganz free kick followed by a Paige Aguilera header set up the winning goal for Kelsey Sedlock as the Wright State women’s soccer team remained atop the Horizon League standings with a 2-1 victory over Valparaiso, Saturday night Oct. 8 at Alumni Field.
Volleyball falls to Northern Kentucky
FAIRBORN — The Wright State women’s volleyball team dropped a three-set Horizon League decision to Northern Kentucky on Sunday, Oct. 9 at the C.J. McLin Gymnasium.

Hockey holding alumni golf outing
BEAVERCREEK — The 2016-17 season marks the 20th anniversary of the Beavercreek varsity hockey program and in celebration, the program will hold the first Beavercreek Varsity Hockey Alumni Friends & Family Golf Scramble. It will be held Saturday, Oct. 22 at Locust Hills Golf Course in Springfield. Included with the $80 entry fee are 18 holes of golf, cart, driving range, box lunch, dinner, and the chance to participate in a silent auction, raffle, and some fun games and competitions on and off the course. Dinner without golf is $20.
