DAYTON — The Victoria is celebrating 150 year this year and Wright State University public history graduate student Shelby Dixon has worked to compile a complete timeline of key events in the life of the Victoria.

Dixon used the university’s archives and special collections, along with the book Now Playing by Bruce and Virginia Ronald, and from Dayton History, Dayton History Books Online, Dayton Metro Libraries, and the University of Dayton Archives.

A pictorial timeline celebrating key moments in the history of this building will be installed on the mezzanine lobby level of the theatre.

The Victoria is continuing to search out artifacts and special items that we might display for patrons to view during the anniversary year. Many collections of program books and playbills have been already been donated. They would love to acquire any photos or memorabilia from the 1950s and 1960s when the theatre was a Disney movie house, and the concerts and midnight movie days of the 1970s.

If you have anything from those days or even earlier staff would love to use it for the display. Just send an email at [email protected]. Personal items can be returned after the anniversary year or can be donated to the VTA archive at WSU. The Victoria is located 138 N. Main St. Call 937-228-7591 or email [email protected] for more information.
