BEAVERCREEK — Completing the trail system at Greene County Parks & Trail’s (GCP&T) Russ Nature Reserve (RNR), two Eagle Scouts from Troop 870 in Beavercreek worked together to create a combined 44 footstep walkway and connecting bridge.
Nathan Bain elected to build 24 foot west steps on the RNR One-Mile Loop Trail at the park for his Eagle Scout project and then recruited Jacob Hale to the build the 20 foot east step walkway.
Eight other Eagle Scout projects have already been completed at GCP&T’s newest park, which offers 80 acres with the Lovely Nature PlayScape, hiking trails, pond, tree nursery, bee apiary, bluebird trail, restored prairie and much more. The park is located at the corner of Beaver Valley and Kemp roads in Beavercreek.
The challenging project involved crossing a 42-foot wide and 12-foot deep drainage swale with the project involving approximately 300 hours by scouts, family, park agency volunteers and park maintenance professionals.
