Bellbrook wins again
BELLBROOK — Raif Foster shot a match-low 35 to lead the Bellbrook boys golf team to an easy 157-199 win over Paynesville, Tuesday Sept. 20 at Majestic Springs Golf Club. Sean Ulrich shot 40, while Mason Zimmer and Will Martin each fired a 41.
Bellbrook girls win
BELLBROOK — Lydia Travis and Cassidy Hofacker each scored a goal as Bellbrook’s girls soccer team beat Southwestern Buckeye League foe Oakwood, 2-0, Sept, 20. It was the second goal this season for each. Bellbrook is 4-2-2 overall and 4-1-1 in the Southwestern Division, 1.5 games behind 5-0 Monroe. The reserve team tied, 1-1.
Beavers fall to Panthers
BEAVERCREEK — Springboro came from behind to beat Beavercreek, 25-16, 18-25, 18-25, 25-20, 15-6, in girls volleyball, Tuesday, Sept. 20. The Beavers are 8-5 and have a tri-match on Saturday Sept. 24 at Cincinnati Seton with the hosts and Mason.

Greeneview teams lose tiwce
JAMESTOWN — Greeneview’s seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams lost to London, Tuesday Sept. 20. The seventh graders lost, 5-25, 11-25. The eighth grade team lost, 15-25, 13,25. Kimmy Robinette was solid defensively with 17 digs. Elizabeth Reichley added 10.

Norman in running for Top Female Paralympian
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Team USA has nominated Jamestown native and Cedarville University freshman Grace Norman as a candidate for Top Female Paralympic Athlete of the Rio Games. Fans can vote for Norman on the teamusa.org website.
Norman became the first female triathlon gold medalist at the recent Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Then, just 36 hours later, she earned a bronze medal in the women’s 400-meter run. On Saturday, the recent Xenia Christian High School grad ran a personal-best 18:47 time in the 5-kilometer run at West Carrollton’s Buttercream Festival. She plans on taking a month off from competition to focus on catching up on her course work and training for the college indoor track & field season which begins in early December.
Jackets down Findlay
CEDARVILLE — Cedarville University defeated Findlay, 23-25, 25-21, 25-14, 25-23, in front of 1,047 fans, Tuesday, Sept. 20 in the Callan Athletic Center to open the home schedule. Cedarville, 9-2, won its ninth in a row while the Oilers, 6-4, had their six-match winning streak snapped. Krissy Pratt and Abby Shelton led four players in double figures by pounding 16 kills apiece. Rachel Krikke had 13 while Gabby Olson added 12. Pratt added 15 digs and Krikke had six blocks. Kristin Cardwell had 49 assists and four blocks. Angela Becker chipped in 14 digs.
CU rolls to 9-0 road victory
STEUBENVILLE — The Yellow Jackets opened their road schedule with a 9-0 non-conference women’s tennis win, Tuesday Sept. 20 at previously unbeaten Franciscan University. Cedarville improved to 2-1 with the victory at Belleview Park. The host Barons fall to 5-1.
In doubles, Lauren Jackson and Kristen Heydt were 8-4 winners while Rosie Thompson and Deanna Whalen, as well as Halie Hardwick and Janelle English, both won by identical 8-3 counts. The Jackets swept the singles matches in straight sets.
G-MAC chooses Athletes of the Week
INDIANAPOLIS — Cedarville’s Olivia Esbenshade has been recognized as the G-MAC Women’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week and junior Daniel Michalski was chosen G-MAC Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Week, both for the second time this season.
Esbenshade, a senior from Marietta, Pa., was also chosen for the award on Sept. 6. She led the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division II No. 14-ranked Yellow Jackets to the team title by winning the race in 18:20. Her 5K time was the quickest in the league so far this year and ranks sixth all-time. The Jackets host the All-Ohio Intercollegiate Championship at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30.
Michalski is a Xenia native. He ran to victory in the 26th Annual Friendship Invitational with a winning time of 25:26 — six seconds ahead of second place. His mark is the fastest for the 8K in the G-MAC this fall. The Yellow Jackets host the All-Ohio Intercollegiate Championship starting at 2:45 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30.
Locals perform well
WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — The University of the Cumberland Cross Country teams were in action this past weekend as they competed in the Cedarville University Invitational. Both teams had strong individual finishes and do well as a team in the NCAA Division-I and NCAA D-II laden field. The men’s team finished fifth out of 10 teams, while the women finished eighth of 10 teams. Locals performed well in the competition.
The women were led by senior Meg McGaha of Beavercreek as she finished in a time of 20:11 in the first 5K of the season, good for 35th place. Senior Maureen McGaha of Beavercreek added a 60th place finish in a time of 20:56. Senior Sam Beal of Beavercreek continued his strong start and finished third overall in a time of 25:44 in the first 8K of the season.

Fairborn seeks wrestling coaches
FAIRBORN — Fairborn High School is looking for a varsity assistant wrestling coach and a middle school assistant wrestling coach for this coming season. Fairborn is also looking to start up the youth wrestling program and the department is looking for program coordinators and youth coaches as well. Heroes unite for lung cancer research
DAYTON — The Free to Breathe 5K Run-Walk and 1-Mile Walk will be held Saturday, Oct. 22 to Fund Research and Double Survival at Fifth Third Field. All proceeds from the event support Free to Breathe, a lung cancer research and advocacy organization dedicated to doubling lung cancer survival by 2022. Register, raise funds, and run or walk.
“By fundraising and joining us on event day, you are bringing hope to those touched by the disease,” said volunteer event chair Kathy Fennig of Dayton. “More treatment options are needed, and the innovative research we’re funding can help ensure everyone diagnosed with the disease has a fighting chance.”
