BEAVERCREEK — At 23-years-old, the Mall at Fairfield Commons is continuing its center-wide renovation with more interior updates.

Phase One of the redevelopment project, of which a significant portion is completed, began outside. It included the addition of a new entrance and three restaurants, B.J.’s Restaurant and Brewhouse, BRAVO! Cucina Italiana and Chuy’s Tex Mex restaurant.

According to Kristie Miller, mall general manager, traffic has increased 20 percent since the restaurants were added.

“The restaurants are doing phenomenal, and are helping us bring in new ones,” she said.

Phase Two of the project — which focuses on the mall’s interior — is well underway for completion this fall. Its newest renovations, which are now complete and ready for use, include a floating staircase, a second set of public restrooms, and a sleek, black charging station.

With the addition of the staircase outside JCPenney, shoppers now have access to a staircase, an escalator, and elevators.

Before the installation of the extra set of restrooms, the mall contained only one public restroom upstairs. The new set includes a men’s, women’s, and family restroom downstairs, in addition to a family lounge and a “mother’s room” for diaper changing and nursing.

“It gives mothers an area they can go to to have peace and quiet,” Miller said.

The new charging station located right around the corner from the restrooms offers comfort and convenience for mall-goers, allowing them to sit down and plug in their cellphones or laptops.

Another development in the mall is still under construction. The large marble staircase that currently divides Center Court will be removed in order to open up the area for event use and for better visibility of tenants. The area will be updated with new tile, fresh paint, and a new Guest Services booth.

The mall hosts free monthly events for families and children in the Center Court area. Children’s activities include puppet shows and juggling, and holiday-featured shows and events.

The barricade wall, mall management promised, will be down by the time Santa arrives.

Additional updates coming to the mall include Fusian, a sushi restaurant, and Francesca’s, a women’s clothing boutique.

The Mall at Fairfield Commons is located at 2727 Fairfield Commons, and is open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. on Sundays.

One addition to the mall’s interior includes a nursing and changing room for mothers.
