Books & Co. welcomes authors to speak

News-Current Report

BEAVERCREEK — Books & Co. will host several authors in September. Books & Co. is located at The Greene, 4453 Walnut St.

Ridley Pearson will introduce Lock and Key: The Initiation 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21. It is the first book in his new middle grade trilogy. It radically reimagines the origins of the rivalry between Sherlock Holmes and his arch-nemesis James Moriarty – as told from the point of view of James’s own sister Moira. Meet James and Moira when they are sent off to boarding school. Neither one wants to be there, but it’s a family tradition. It is there that James is paired with a rather unexpected roommate — Sherlock Holmes. Besides writing books for young readers, including the popular Peter and the Starcatcher series and The Kingdom Keepers series, Ridley Pearson also writes successful adult crime novels.

Kevin Sands and James Ponti will introduce new children’s novels 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22.

Kevin Sands will introduce Mark of the Plague, a sequel to the beloved The Blackthorn Key and James Ponti will introduce Framed, the first in a new middle grade series. Both of these books are seriously engaging, involving puzzles and mysteries. In Mark of the Plague, London is threatened with a rapidly spreading deadly disease. Christopher and his friend Tom risk their lives to untangle the heart of a dark conspiracy involving the rapidly moving plague before it’s too late.

In Framed, we meet Florian Bates, who is 12 years old, and besides going to middle school, he also works for the FBI. Why? Because he’s good at noticing small things. He refers to this skill as TOAST: Theory of All Small Things. Ponti has written and produced television shows for Nickelodeon, Disney Channel, PBS, Spike, History Channel, and Golf Channel.
