Remembering Laura McElwain

XENIA — Laura McElwain loved children and became a teacher in the Xenia schools. She began her 28 year career in 1886 with 81 pupils. She first taught second grade students, then later third grade, eventually moving up to eighth grade. She kept a list of all the names of the students she taught over the years. At the time of her retirement, she had a list of 1,113 names.
