Greeneview volleyball tops DC
JAMESTOWN — The Greeneview girls volleyball team had little trouble with Dayton Christian, winning 25-5, 25-8, 25-8 in a recent match.
Ashley Schloss and Maddie Hines each had seven kills to lead the Rams. Brianna Seigfried had 21 assists, while libero Jenna Basinger had 13 digs.
The Greeneview reserve team beat Dayton Christian, 25-3, 25-3. Amanda Mickle led with eight aces. Madyson Brittingham and Maddy Cadwallader each had five aces.
FHS tennis team tops Wayne
HUBER HEIGHTS — Slow and steady was the theme for the visiting Fairborn tennis team as it battled the heat and the Wayne Warriors, Saturday, Aug. 27. The Skyhawks won 5-0.
Brooklyn Hunter was first off, winning 6-2, 6-3 at first singles.
Acadia Wulf and her opponent split the first two sets, with Wulf winning 6-4 and losing 3-6. Since the overall match was already decided, they played a 10-point tiebreaker to determine the winner, with Wulf posting a 10-7 win.
Kyla Secrest won 6-2, 6-3 at third singles, digging herself out of a 3-1 deficit in the second set.
Shayna Osborne and Preslee Chapman won 7-5, 6-2 at first doubles, coming back from a 4-1 deficit in the first set.
Megan Koonce and Paige Murry teamed up for the first time at second doubles, winning 6-4, 6-0. They were the fourth doubles combination in seven matches.
“I thought our girls did an outstanding job of getting adjusted to the heat and to their opponents and after a slow start at a few spots, they came on and finished strong,” coach Doug Coy said.
The reserve team won both matches. Jayna Varner and Tiana Thomas won 8-4 and then Varner won a singles match 6-2.
Skyhawks lose pair in volleyball
OAKWOOD — Fairborn jumped out to a first-set win but couldn’t win another, losing 23-25, 25-10, 25-10 in a match against Oakwood Aug. 27. Kayleigh Finlayson had 23 digs and 10 passes. Taylor Rice and Cloe Snyder each had six kills.
In another Aug. 27 match, Clayton Northmont beat Fairborn 25-16, 25-23. Defense and serving was the focal point for Fairborn, which had seven kills. Finlayson and Taylor Soulati each had six digs while the team had eight total aces.

Drive to Victory
BELLBROOK & FAIRBORN — Bellbrook High School and Fairborn High School will compete in the first week of the Goodwill Drive to Victory’s 10th season.
Drive to Victory is a friendly competition each week between two local high schools who battle off the field in a donation drive benefiting Goodwill Easter Seals Miami Valley. The contest began Monday, Aug. 29 when donation trailers were parked at both schools for donation collection all week. The school that collects the most weight by Friday will be announced on Friday night and will receive a $300 scholarship from Universal 1 Credit Union.
Donated items will be sold in Goodwill Stores and at the Goodwill Auto Auction with proceeds supporting the mission of helping people with disabilities and other needs here in the community. At the conclusion of the season the school that has collected the most weight during their Drive the Victory week will receive an additional $700 scholarship. Xenia Tornadoes tryouts set
XENIA — The Xenia Tornadoes semi-professional football team will hold a tryout for its 2017 team at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17 at Spring Hill Park, located just off Ormsby Drive. Tryouts are free, make sure you bring water cleats and shorts. Tryouts will consist of agility drills, route running, and more.
Central State names induction class
WILBERFORCE — The 2016 Hall of Fame Luncheon will be held at Country Club of the North 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14. All those planning to attend must RSVP prior to the event and purchase tickets on or before Friday, Oct. 2.
Five individuals and four teams make up this year’s class: Leonard “Tony” Blaine ‘62, John E. Day ‘71, Eric Love ‘83, Dr. Paul Nitz, James Rollins ‘96, 1960 & 1962 men’s cross country teams, 1983 football team and the 1991 women’s track & field team. Xenia sports passes available
XENIA — The Xenia High School Athletic Department will be offering four different all-sports passes for the 2016-17 school year. Passes are good for unlimited admission to all home Xenia athletic events for middle school and high school. Passes are not valid for away contests or Ohio High School Athletic Association-sanctioned tournaments.
The following passes are available: Student pass $50; adult pass $75; family pass $225 — good for four people in the same household. Additional family members in the same household may be added for $25 each. A senior citizens pass is available free to age 62 years of age and older.

Rain wins again
DEGRAFF — Rain and lightning once again forced Shady Bowl Speedway management to cancel its Saturday, Aug. 27 racing program. The Main Event Racing Series was to have been on hand to run a 100-lap feature for the super late models. No make up date has been set for the cancelled program.
The Bowl will not be racing on Saturday, Sept. 3. This will give the locals drivers and fans a chance to attend Speedfest at Winchester (Ind.) Speedway. The Bowl will also be shut down on Sept. 10. This date marks the last race ever at Columbus Motor Speedway after 71 years of racing allowing fans and drivers one more chance to see racing at the Obetz oval. The next race at the Bowl will be on Sunday, Sept. 11.
Drifting Series heads to Kil-Kare Raceway
WESTFIELD, Ind. — The Midwest Drift Union will bring the third round of its Championship Series to Kil-Kare Raceway on Sept. 17 in Xenia. The MDU was founded in 2010 as a Midwest regional feeder series with the intention of advancing the area’s top drifting competitors to the professional level. Last season, the top-3 drivers were rewarded with a Formula Drift Pro 2 competitors license.
