Flamingos win tourney title
SPRINGFIELD — The Jamestown “Pink Flamingos” 12U girls softball team needed to win four consecutive games in order to claim the league championship, and they did just that, Sunday at Reid Park. The Flamingos defeated South Charleston Southeastern, 14-6, in the title game.
The team had finished in a tie for second in the Jamestown Youth S0ftball League 12U regular season standings.
Flamingos pitcher Sadie Trisel was voted the team’s tournament MVP. Makayla Robinson was the MVP for Southeastern.
Members of the Jamestown team are: Reagan Saunders (left field); Madelyn Muse (second base); Jordynn McCaslin (right centerfield); Phoenix Perry (right field); Kameron Hilderbrand (left centerfield); Meghan Hess (third base/pitcher); Kelsey Stone (shortstop/first base); Gracee Cassidy (catcher); Sarah Trisel (first base); and Sadie Trisel (pitcher/shortstop).
BICYCLING
Greene Trails Cycling Classic July 14-17
XENIA — The 2016 Greene Trails Cycling Classic will take place July 14-17 with the Greene County Fairgrounds Recreation Center serving as home base for the hundreds of cyclists expected to attend from all over the region.
Excursions will be planned for each day of the event. Registration includes Fairgrounds Recreation Center campsite, Support and Gear (SAG), fully-supported rest stops, purchase pick-up, breakfast daily and all evening entertainment including meal on Thursday and Saturday night – if registered for Thursday and Saturday.
Reduced Greene County Resident Rate includes all SAG, Rest Stops, Purchase Pick Up, Century Ride Award, Tent Camping and Breakfast. Additional and optional costs may include $10 per evening for entertainment; T-shirt, $15; and GTCC Jersey, $65.

HOCKEY
H.S. development program offered
Academy Hockey is a new and exciting opportunity for area high school players to improve skills and continue enjoying the game of hockey off-season. Academy Hockey Program goals are open opportunity (no tryouts), skills development (max touches/reps), and fun! This program is available to all area high school players and is endorsed by your Dayton area High School coaches (Alter, Beavercreek, Centerville, Springboro, and Troy). The program meets all OHSAA pre/post criteria — and former Division I Hockey players form the core of our coaching staff!
Summer camp will run from 7-8:20 p.m., July 18-21 at South Metro. Cost is $120. The 90-minute evening sessions include skills warm-ups and open non-checking fun play scrimmages.
A preseason fall camp will run on Thursdays (or Wednesday) and Sundays on Sept. 8 – Oct. 30 with one session of skills development and one session of scrimmage games, at a time and location to be announced. Cost is $400.
Camps are open to all area high school hockey players. Must have a current USA Hockey registration (last year’s is good through Aug. 31, 2016), and you need a liability waiver.

BASKETBALL
Girls fall leagues filling now
BEAVERCREEK — The Beavercreek High School girls basketball program will be hosting the 17th Annual Girls Basketball Fall League from Sept. 11 to Oct. 23 on Sundays at the high school, located at 2660 Dayton-Xenia Road.
All teams will play a total of seven games on five Sundays with no game TBA (to accommodate the college exposure tournaments, date subject to change).
The league will be a total of 12 high school teams (ninth through 12th grade). There will be 8-10 girls per team, keeping in mind that only two players from each school may play on the same team (per the Ohio High School Athletic Association rule). Space is limited to 120 players and restricted based on OHSAA rules. The talent level will be balanced as much as possible across all teams and a coach will be supplied for each team.
Deadline is Aug. 22, or until the league is full. Cost is $75 per player, which includes a numbered jersey. Make checks payable to: Beavercreek Athletic Boosters.
