Koch eliminated at Olympic Trials

Eugene, Ore. — Cedarville University sophomore Carsyn Koch placed fifth in her heat and 31st in a field of 38 competitors in the women’s 800-meter preliminaries, Friday, at the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Team Trials.

Koch turned in a time of 2:05.57, three seconds slower than her personal-best time of 2:02.39. Twelve runners advanced to Saturday’s second round of preliminaries. Worthington, Ohio native Molly Ludlow turned in the quickest time at 2:00.30.

Scouts 8U Tryouts July 5th

XENIA — The Xenia Scouts will hold an open tryout for a 2017 8U team at 6 p.m. July 5 at the Athletes In Action Sports Complex. This is a new team that will need a coaching staff and 12 players.

Reds hosting ‘Night of Their Own’

CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Reds baseball organization will be hosting the third annual A Night of Their Own — Baseball 101 event from 4:30-9:30 p.m. July 21 at Great American Ball Park in downtown Cincinnati. The event is a chance for women of all ages to eat, play and learn with Reds coaches, broadcasters, staff and special guests to get an inside look at the game of baseball.

A dinner buffet will be served from 5:30 -6:30 p.m., followed by the chance to throw on the pitcher’s mound, shag fly balls in the outfield and even take a few swings at live pitches in the batter’s box. Attendees will meet Reds manager Bryan Price, and broadcasters Marty and Thom Brennaman. Attendees will also get baseball tips from members of the Reds coaching staff, including third base coach and former Cincinnati Reds player Billy Hatcher.

Cost is $175 which includes an upscale buffet with open bar, an upgraded gift bag featuring an exclusive ladies Reds watch and a Reds wine tumbler, a ticket to an upcoming Reds baseball game, and an extensive guided tour of the ball park. All proceeds will benefit outreach programs of the Reds Community Fund.
