Forsberg: Follow the light

By Pastor Robert Forsberg

“After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed.” (Matthew 2:9-10)

Isn’t it interesting to notice that the star may not have just hung around? It may have disappeared, which raises a lot of questions as to what this actually was – planets aligning or a real miracle. The star them moves ahead of them and stops over the place where Jesus was.

We know that this sighting in the sky was enough to send these wise men on a journey and that they expected to find something at its end. Though going off course for a moment by inquiring of King Herod, they are now back on course to meet the Savior of all humankind and they are overjoyed.

The Lord goes before us when we step out in faith. That is what these wise men did. When they step out the star again leads them. If they would step out when they didn’t know the Savior, how much more should we, since we do. Stepping out in faith is always difficult. We want to see the end product but maybe if we step out in faith the Lord will give us just enough light, like the star, to encourage us on our way to the prize. That prize may also surprise us. Remember, God will be God.

Heavenly Father, give us Your Grace to step out in faith and be led by You. Give us enough light to begin the journey to the prize You have in store for us. Make us wise, like the wise men. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
