BEAVERCREEK — Chuck Norris’s son, Mike, has leveled both barrels of his new independent film at his country’s government, and he’s bringing that film and its message to Beavercreek.
“Amerigeddon,” which opened at Regal Cinemas at Fairfield Commons on Friday, takes place in a world in which the United States government conspires with the United Nations to take down the country’s power grid by setting off an electromagnetic pulse.
“Amerigeddon depicts a country ruled by martial law in which citizens are stripped of their constitutional rights and their guns,” promotional material about the movie states. “A group of patriots fight back and rescue the country from slipping into irreversible chaos.”
According to Mike, the film’s co-writer, Gary Heavin, was inspired by his interactions with Washington politicians.
“All of the politicians he was dealing with were all bought and paid for,” Norris said. “… Really what our goal was is to just open a dialogue with our viewers saying, ‘Hey, all is not as it seems in Washington.’ If you think the government really has your best interest at heart, we feel that’s a misrepresentation of what the government’s really doing.”
For Mike, his father’s influence played a role in his attraction to the film.
“I take being Chuck Norris’s son very seriously,” he said. “… My father served this country, my father is a patriot and it’s kind of what I was raised with. I really gravitated towards that. America means something to me.
“We are losing our freedoms. If we just keep going and we don’t say anything … our country’s going to be in a horrible place.”
