FAIRBORN — At a young age, Ashley Rentz knew she wanted to be a police officer. She met a few officers responding to a call when she was just 10 years old, and it was from that positive impression she knew it was the career for her.
Last week, the City of Fairborn Police Department hired her as its newest officer. Originally from the Dayton area, Rentz met her husband, married, and moved to the state of Washington as her husband was in the military. She waited until being able to move back to Ohio where both sides of their families resided before pursing her law enforcement career.
Rentz worked as a dispatcher for the Montgomery County Sheriff’s office and at the same time enrolled in the Greene County Criminal Justice Academy (GCCJA). In July 2015, she was commissioned with the City of Germantown as an auxiliary officer, and in September, she was hired as a part-time jailer with the City of Fairborn.
“I’m very happy to be working for the Fairborn Police Department,” said Rentz, “I have two main career objectives and both of them can be accomplished working here — I want to do canine work and detective work. I know I can get into both of these aspects with this department. There is a lot of good training here.”
Rentz added that the Fairborn Police Department has resources and training that other agencies don’t have access to and that training at the department is continuous. Rentz is a mother of three children, ages 8, 7 and 3.
