FAIRBORN — The city of Fairborn’s Downtown Streetscape project is entering its final stage this month and is expected to wrap up in June.
This means the Main Street and Maple Avenue intersection will close for two weeks starting in mid-to-late March. Later into the project, the Main Street and Elm Avenue will close for five weeks starting in early May.
Project officials said pedestrian traffic will not be impacted, and drivers will be notified within 48 hours of the closures. Detours will be posted as they occur.
The purpose of the Downtown Streetscape project, according to a project fact sheet, is to create a more user-friendly area and give the downtown area a fresh, new look. It will also compliment the work that was completed during phases one and two of the Downtown Streetscape Project.
The final phase of this project will entail resurfacing on Main Street from Pleasant Avenue to Dayton Drive, realigning the roadway at Dayton Drive, improving drainage, streetscape elements and pedestrian areas.
The construction budget was $700,000; the awarded bid amount was $662,298. The Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission is funding $300,000, while the City of Fairborn is funding $400,000. The project was advertised December 2015, while grants were awarded last month.
