FAIRBORN — The Fairborn High School Music Department will present the comedy musical “Little Shop of Horrors” 7 p.m. Friday Feb. 19 and Saturday Feb. 20 in the Fairborn High School auditorium.
“Little Shop of Horrors” is a doo-wop spoof of 1950s sci-fi disaster movies. The show follows the misadventures of Seymour, a down-and-out floral assistant who longs to get the girl of his dreams and escape life on skid row. He becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers an exotic plant with a mysterious craving for fresh blood.
Soon “Audrey II” grows into an ill-tempered, R&B-singing carnivore who offers him fame and fortune in exchange for feeding its growing appetite, finally revealing itself to be an alien creature poised for global domination.
Laced with dark humor and irresistible music, “Little Shop of Horrors” is one of the longest-running off-Broadway shows of all time.
“We are so excited to be able to bring this amazing show to life here at Fairborn,” Director Karen Gorretta said. “The various Audrey II puppets that we are using are rented from the University of Cincinnati, and are amazing. They really add a whole other element to what the audience gets to experience. The kids have been working incredibly hard, and are ready to get an audience in the seats so we can show them what we can do.”
Cast members include: Titus Smith (Seymour), Bailey Fahl (Audrey), Brent Grody (The Dentist), Ben Harris (Mr. Mushnik), Dylan Ealey (Audrey II), and Sally Carico, Shayla Murray, Isabelle Smith, Anya Tassey, Jayna Varner and Shekina Williams (Street Urchins).
The student stage manager is Alex Coleman and student light chief is Zoe Gausel. Sound design and pit band preparation is done by John Gorretta, set and stage design by Barb Skusa, lighting design by Mark Coldiron of The Light Fantastic and choreography is by Kendra Bayer. Accompanist is Amy Whitehill.
Tickets are $6 for students and senior citizens, $8 for adults. All seats are general admission, and doors will open at 6 p.m. Tickets are available during school hours in the FHS main office or can be purchased at the door.
