Ambassadors ambushed

XENIA — Caleb Moore scored 14 points, Jon Willis added 11 points and Kevin Reep had nine points and 13 rebounds to lead visiting Springfield Emmanuel Christian to a 45-41 win over Xenia Christian (1-16, 1-9 MBC) on Tuesday. There were no Xenia Christian individual statistics reported to the Metro Buckeye League’s website.

The two teams will play again at 7 p.m. on Friday, this time on the Lions’ home court.

Carroll trips Bethel Bees

TIPP CITY — The Carroll Patriots claimed a 52-43 non-league win Tuesday night over Tipp City Bethel. Carroll led 25-13 at the half, and extended that lead to 40-22 after three quarters of play. No individual statistics were available for either team on the Greater Catholic League Co-Ed Division’s website.

Carroll (12-7, 4-4 GCLC North) will host Dayton Chaminade Julienne at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Golden Eagles lose on the road

CAMDEN — Host Preble Shawnee handed Bellbrook at 51-42 loss Tuesday night in a Southwestern Buckeye League crossover game. No individual statistics were available.

Bellbrook (6-12, 4-5 in the SWBL’s Southwestern Division) plays at Monroe at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Knights fall to Shawnee

ENON — Visiting Springfield Shawnee handed Greenon a 62-49 loss, Tuesday night. The loss brings the Knights’ record to 3-15 overall, 1-7 in the Central Buckeye Conference’s Mad River division.

Greenon will host New Paris Graham at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Elks beat Beavercreek

BEAVERCREEK — The visiting Centerville Elks jumped out in front 27-8 at halftime of Tuesday’s game and rode that lead to an eventual 48-37 Greater Western Ohio Conference win over Beavercreek.

Keegan Saben scored 19 points for Centerville, while Elks teammate Daniel Buchenroth was next with 11 points and nine rebounds.

Jackson Hansen scored a team-high eighth points for Beavercreek, while Jackson Buck, Jon Alessandro, Cedric Baldwin and Alec Otto each scored six points in the loss.

Beavercreek (3-15, 0-7 GWOC Central) has a pair of 7:30 p.m. home games this weekend: They face Clayton Northmont on Friday, then will host Bellbrook in a nonleague tussle Saturday.

Skyhawks down Lebanon

FAIRBORN — After trailing Lebanon by five points at halftime (25-20), the host Fairborn Skyhawks blanked the Warriors 18-0 in the third quarter of Tuesday’s 48-37 Greater Western Ohio Conference, South Division win.

Jordan Pumroy led Fairborn with a 17-point, six-rebound performance. Fellow Skyhawks Branden Lilley, Leslen Switzer and Ryan Profitt scored eight points each.

The win keeps Fairborn third in the GWOC South division. They are two games behind leader Springboro (one behind second-place Xenia) with three games to play.

Fairborn plays at West Carrollton on Friday, then at Springboro on Tuesday, Feb. 9, before hosting Xenia for a regular season finale, Friday, Feb. 12. All three games are listed as 7:30 p.m. starts.

Fairborn girls softball taking registrations

FAIRBORN — The Fairborn Girls Softball Association is now accepting registrations for its fastpitch girls 10U to 18U and slowpitch girls 5-20 leagues. Girls from all communities are welcome.

Registration fee is $60 by Jan. 31, $70 starting March 1, with a $10 discount for additional family members.

In-person registration will take place from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Feb. 6 and 1-3 p.m. Feb. 21 at The Inside Scoop, located at 313 W. Main St.

Masterson to headline First Pitch Banquet

FAIRBORN — The Wright State baseball program has announced that major league pitcher and Beavercreek native Justin Masterson will be the keynote speaker at the 12th annual First Pitch Banquet on Friday, Feb. 5, 2016, on the main arena floor in WSU’s Nutter Center.

Justin Masterson is a 2003 graduate of Beavercreek High School where he starred in baseball and basketball. He then attended Bethel College in Mishawaka, Ind., for two seasons before transferring to San Diego State University for his junior year. There he pitched for Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn and was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 2nd round of the 2006 MLB draft following the college season. He shot through the minors and made his MLB debut on April 24, 2008.

The First Pitch Banquet features a sit-down dinner along with a silent auction. The cost for the event will be $70 per person or a VIP table for 10 guests costing $1000. The VIP table includes recognition during the program and admission to a pre-event meet and greet with Masterson. The doors will open to the public at 6:30 p.m.

Dragons anthem tryouts Feb. 27

DAYTON —The Dayton Dragons minor league baseball team will host National Anthem tryouts from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Feb. 27 at the Mall at Fairfield Commons in Beavercreek.

The winners will perform the national anthem at Dragons games throughout the season, with the grand prize winner performing at Opening Day 2016 before the Dragons host the Bowling Green Hot Rods at Fifth Third Field 4 p.m. Saturday, April 9.

Pre-registration is now under way at daytondragons.com/nationalanthem. The first 200 entrants who pre-register for this event will receive a scheduled tryout time.

Arnold 5K run set for March 6

COLUMBUS — The 16th annual Arnold 5K will be held on Sunday, March 6 in downtown Columbus. The race is part of the Arnold Sports Festival Weekend. All entrants receive an Arnold 5K race T-shirt and a free entry ($20 value) to the 27th Annual Arnold Sports Festival after the race, plus the top 500 finishers receive Arnold 5K medals.
