BEAVERCREEK — A newly built bridge crossing a vernal pool at Greene County Parks & Trails’ Russ Nature Reserve has provided not only a walkway for park guests but also a connection for a grandson with his grandmother.
Alex Stewart, of Beavercreek, built the bridge as part of his Eagle Scout project this autumn. His grandmother, who is in frail health, had wanted to walk across the bridge created by her grandson.
In late November, with the assistance of Stewart and Russ Nature Reserve volunteer coordinator Ken Bish, she got her wish. Not only did she walk across the bridge built by her grandson, she received a personalized tour throughout the 90-acre park.
For his construction project, Stewart earned his Eagle Scout status in Nov. 2015 with his grandmother and family by his side.
