FAIRBORN — Fairborn High School will hold exams for freshman, sophomore, junior and senior-leveled students in the coming weeks, and although its normal policies and procedures will remain in place for things such as technology usage and dress code, rules may vary for absent and/or tardy students.

Exams for all students will be given Wednesday, Dec. 16; Thursday, Dec. 17 and Friday, Dec. 18.

School officials remind students to keep the 3 Ps’ in mind: be present, prompt and prepared for all exams, and that it is a significant portion of the students final grade in each course.

“If you do not take an exam, you may not receive credit for the course,” a press release from the school said. “Don’t let this happen to you.”

School buses will run on their regular schedule on exam days with the exception of Friday, Dec. 18, which has a 40 minute early release day taking place at 1:30 p.m.

All school policies will remain in effect and be enforced during exam week, including dress code and appropriate use of technology/electronic devices. On exam days, students are required to be under the direct supervision of FHS faculty or staff members during all scheduled exam times, review/study periods, classes and lunch periods, including students who are also teacher aides.

If students are going to be absent on exam days and know prior to the event, school officials said they should seek formal approval from Brent Ehresman, assistant principal in the attendance office. Absences will be approved as excused only for extreme situations, such as surgery. However, proof to support excusing the absence on an exam day will be required.

Students will still be responsible to take their exams and will have to arrange for a mutually agreeable time with their teachers to do so before the end of the semester. Makeup exam times will take place 2:10 – 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17 and Friday, December 18.

The attendance office must receive a telephone call from the student’s parent and a doctor’s note for their absence will be excused on an exam day. Exams can only be made up if an absence is excused by a doctor’s note.

In the event of a student being tardy for an exam, they must enter the building using the doors under the canopy by the auditorium, as all other doors will be locked. After they sign in, they will be escorted to their classroom where the teacher will decide whether the student will take the exam at that time, or if they must return to take the exam during the make-up time.

If a teacher decides that a student must wait to take the exam during a make-up exam period, then they will be escorted to the auditorium and will be expected to return to the main office promptly at the beginning of the make-up exam time. No student will be admitted to take an exam 15 minutes after the start of the exam period.

Disciplinary consequences resulting from inappropriate behavior during exam week may be administered on exam days and can also be assigned in the days following exams, including in the second semester.
