Four Beavercreek students sign letters

BEAVERCREEK — At a special signing ceremony on Thursday, Beavercreek High School senior student-athletes Jackson Back, Alexa Low, Drew Prater and Jackson Tedder each signed National Letters of Intent to attend their respective schools.

Jackson Back will attend Coker College in Hartsville, S.C. and will play baseball; Alexa Low is headed to Quincy (Ill.) University to play women’s basketball; Drew Prater will play men’s golf at the University of Findlay; and Jackson Tedder signed to play collegiate baseball at the University of Virginia, in Charlottesville, Va.

Mid East Cross Country Championships, Saturday

KETTERING — Beavercreek senior Aislinn Fitzgerald, the Beavers’s top finisher at the state cross country championships this season, has been listed among the entries in the annual Mid East Cross Country Championships, which will be held Saturday, Nov. 21 at Indian Riffle Park.

Other Ohio runners entered in the regional competition are: Kaci Bornhorst of DII state team runner up Minster, 2015 Division I state champion cross country runner Lainey Studebaker of Centerville, Chloe Flora of Botkins (fourth at state), and Maegan Murphy of Mason (15th, DI) in the girls race.

Top Ohio boys runners include Pleasant Hill Newton’s Brady McBride (eighth at state, DIII), Mitchell Poynter of Tipp City (state runner up, DII), Troy’s Stephan Jones (ninth at state, DI) and Logan Griffith of Springfield Shawnee (seventh at state, DII).

The girls race is set to start at 11 a.m., with the boys event to follow at 11:30 a.m.

Bev Sword’s Turkey Trot set for Thanksgiving Day

JAMESTOWN — The Silvercreek Township Fire Department will hold its annual 5-kilometer run on Thanksgiving morning. Funds from the Bev Sword’s Turkey Trot event will not only help enable the fire department to provide services for the Jamestown area, but this year the funds will also help create a college fund for Dylan Swisher, the nephew of Bev Sword.

Bev Sword, an Emergency Medical Services Captain who passed away in July, often led the fundraising effort. The fire department is asking area businesses to help sponsor the event. All proceeds from this year’s run will go to the Dylan Swisher College Fund.

Entry fee is $30. The event will start at 9 a.m. at Seaman Park in Jamestown, next to Greeneview High School.

Runners can enter at the Silvercreek Township Fire Department building, 28 E. Xenia St., in Jamestown, or register the day of the event between 8-8:45 a.m. Visit Facebook.com/BevSwordsTurkeyTrot for more information.

Women’s football team holding tryouts

DAYTON — The Dayton Diamonds Women’s Professional Football team will hold tryouts, this Saturday from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The tryouts will be held at Triangle Park on Ridge Avenue in Dayton.

Proper attire is required. Gym shoes or football cleats, sweat pants and sweat shirts.

Beavercreek offering four fitness classes

BEAVERCREEK — The City of Beavercreek Parks, Recreation and Culture Department is offering a Fat Blaster Boot Camp, Yoga, Piyo (Pilates, Yoga, Dance) and Pilates classes for the fall and winter months. Classes will be held at C.I. Beaver Hall, 3696 Highmont St., in Beavercreek.

The Fat Buster Boot Camp runs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 5:30 a.m. to 6:30 a.m., with one session running Dec. 7-Jan.22 (closed 12/21 and 1/1). Cost is $70 for residents; $80 for non-residents.

Yoga classes will be offered Mondays from 6:15-7:15 p.m. Dec. 7-Jan.11, and Jan. 25-Feb. 22; and Thursdays at the same times Jan. 27-Feb. 25. Cost is $45 residents; $52 non-residents.

Piyo runs Tuesdays from 6-7 p.m. Dec. 8-Jan. 12, and Jan. 26-Feb. 23 Cost is also $45 for residents; $52 non-residents.

Pilates classes will take place at 6:15-7:15 p.m. Wednesdays, Dec. 9-Jan. 13, and Jan. 27-Feb. 24. Residents pay $45; non-residents $52.
