Greeneview falls to Brookville

XENIA — Greeneview coach Neal Kasner knew the Brookville Blue Devils weren’t fancy.

While it might not have been the most exciting performance, it worked. Brookville (12-0) defeated Greeneview (8-4) 49-7 in a Division V second-round playoff game Friday night at Xenia’s Doug Adams Stadium.

“They’re a good football team. They’re a better team than we are. Most definitely a better team than we are tonight. They were really motivated,” said Kasner.

The Blue Devils ran the ball behind a bruising offensive line. They unofficially had 427 rushing yards in the game.

“Our kids came ready to play,” said Brookville coach Mike Hetrick. “We had a good week of practice. Greeneview is a well-coached team. We saw it on film. They do a good job, and our kids knew they were going to have to play. We had a good game.”

Harry Hall had 151 yards rushing on 16 carries and four touchdowns…in the first half. Bailey Wallen had 141 yards and a touchdown of his own in the first half.

Hall finished the game with 166 yards rushing on 17 attempts. Wallen had 156 yards on 15 carries. Jacob Filburn added 44 yards in the second half.

Greeneview had minus-7 total yards in the first half. The Rams didn’t get a first down until 3:31 remaining in the second quarter. They eventually started moving the ball late in the second half after the Blue Devils took out their starters.

Logan Test finished the game with 48 total yards rushing on 18 attempts. Collin Matt had 16 yards on five attempts.

“Our defense has been playing well all year, really,” said Hetrick. “Our defense sets the tone quite a bit for us. They played a great game tonight. That (Logan) Test kid and Collin Matt, quarterback, they put up a lot of yards running on film. They’ve had a good year, so we knew we had a challenge in front of us. Our kids really played well on that side.”

Brookville, who defeated Carlisle High School 41-0 in its first-round playoff game, led the Rams 42-0 at the half.

Kasner said he told his team he was proud of their season.

“I told them that I was real proud of our seniors…the adversity they battled through and the leadership they gave, and how they led by example – every day they came to work and they worked hard, and the younger guys can feed off that. I was proud of the whole football team for a great season. A season that I don’t know that a whole lot of people were expecting us to be playing in Week 12.”

The Rams graduate five seniors: Harrison Gallagher, Will Harding, Logan Test, Brad Davis and Caleb Green.

Brookville plays undefeated Coldwater High School at 7:30 p.m. Friday at an undecided location.
