FAIRBORN — The City of Fairborn currently offers online payments options for a number of services: utility bills, park shelter reservations and ambulance billings. Now, customers who come into city offices to transact business will have the ability to pay with Visa, MasterCard or Discover as the city is enlisting credit card terminals in a number of offices.
Assistant Finance Director Annetta Williams stated that the city continues to move forward and provide payment options for the convenience of the consumer. Over the years, a number of individuals as well as businesses have requested the capability to pay via credit card. Terminals are now fully operational in the following departments: finance, engineering, building inspection and planning, human resources and parks.
Community Development Office Administrative Assistant Lorna Furderer assists citizens with permits and processes building applications on a daily basis.
“The world revolves around ease and convenience anymore; few people carry cash or checkbooks, so for us to transition to accepting credit/debit cards is a great benefit for both the citizens and the city.” Furderer said. “We have so many residents who apply for a fence or shed permit — it is the most popular permit to get at a cost of $35.00 each, and that is the demographic group that tends to carry their bank card solely. We will no longer have to send someone to their bank to get cash because they only brought a credit card; we can now make the process easier for them.”
Some of the common transactions that can now be paid for via credit card include: job testing fees, building permits, electrical permits, HVAC permits, gas pressure tests, sign permits, occupancy permits, curb and sidewalk assessments, weed and mowing payments, residential alarm permits and fire inspections.
