Asking of god

“The king had granted him (Ezra) everything he asked, for the hand of the Lord his God was on him.” (Ezra 7:6b)

We keep being drawn to the mighty acts of God in ordering lives. There is nothing outside His authority or power. He can and will intervene at a time that is right for His purpose. Here, Ezra needs King Araxerxes’ help. The Lord touches the king and makes His will to begin the restoration of Jerusalem a reality.

Ezra will be the first of two waves of God’s servants, blessed by their kings, to do the restoration work. As we think about this we need to remember that Jerusalem is the center of the world to our God. It is where He established His people in the hostile world of Satan. It was light piercing the darkness. Jerusalem will always be the focus of the True Faith in a material sense, with Jesus being the complete fulfillment in the spiritual sense, our New Jerusalem.

Let us never forget the intervening power of our God for every situation. He can and will fulfill His will and purpose through us and for the world. We can face each day knowing our God is in control of our individual lives. And as our actions fit into His will we will see His power displayed, through changed lives and decisions. Our God is an Awesome God! When His hand is upon us we can ask anything and it will be done.

Heavenly Father, help us ask for the desires of Your heart. We think of ourselves much too often in our prayers. Let our real prayer be, “What do You desire of us?

What do you desire of those around us?” When Your desire becomes our desire then, may things really happen to Your glory. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
