Lyle adjusting to Wright State soccer

Going from being one of the top players on your high school team to a freshman in college can be tough. Former Beavercreek soccer player Tristan Lyle seems to be adjusting just fine.

Lyle, a freshman on the Wright State men’s soccer team, said he’s finding daily life as a freshman to be about what he expected.

“It’s been fun. It’s a lot more competitive. Just being on the team, everybody is competing every day,” he said. “There’s so much talent on the team, but we play for each other. We just work really hard, and it’s fun just to see how competitive everything is.”

In Saturday’s homecoming win against Valparaiso, Lyle came into the game about halfway through the first half. While the forward was a standout in high school, he said it’s been fun competing with players with similar athletic abilities. Lyle has played in 10 of the Raiders soccer matches this season.

“I’m blessed with my talent, but I’m also fortunate to be on the team with these guys. Being a freshman, I’m learning from the upper classmen just trying to get used to this level and the speed of play.”

Lyle said that the upper classmen have been willing to show him the ropes.

“They’re very accepting of the freshman. A lot of the freshman have gotten a lot of playing time, but everybody is good. Everybody is loving here,” he said. “That’s the reason I chose Wright State. It’s a good family program, and I enjoy the coaching staff as well as the players. That’s the reason I picked this school.”

After the homecoming game, Lyle celebrated the 3-1 win with his teammates and then joined a group signing posters for the ball boys. Lyle then caught up with Beavercreek coach John Guiliano.

“I still follow Beavercreek, of course. Beavercreek pride. I’m always going to be a Beaver in my heart. It’s always nice to talk to old coaches and to tell them thanks for everything,” said Lyle. “It’s awesome that they come here to support me and everyone else. It’s just awesome.”

Beavercreek finishes up their season against Walnut Hills 7 p.m. Saturday at home. The Raiders (7-3-1, 2-2-1 Horizon League) are on the road against Milwaukee at 8:30 p.m. this Saturday.
