Boys Soccer

Beavers claims part of GWOC title

BEAVERCREEK — The Beavercreek boys soccer team defeated the Firebirds 2-0 Tuesday night at Fairmont. With the win, the Beavers join Fairmont and Centerville in a three-way tie at 4-1 in the Greater Western Ohio Conference, Central division for the league title. Beavercreek (11-1-3, 4-1 GWOC) hosts Walnut Hills 7 p.m. Saturday at home for the final regular season match. They host Greenville 7 p.m. Tuesday at Beavercreek High School for the first game of the postseason.

Schoenung has hat trick in shutout

BELLBROOK — The Bellbrook girls soccer team defeated Brookville in a 3-0 shutout, Tuesday night at Bellbrook High School. Senior Kelsey Schoenung had all three goals for the team, with assists going to Molly Spears, Hana Midtlien and Lauren Chew. Bellbrook starts the postseason against Dayton Dunbar at 7 p.m. Monday at Bellbrook High School.

Xenia girls wrap up season

XENIA — The Xenia High School Jr. varsity volleyball team ended their regular season with a (6-12, 5-6 GWOC) record going into the GWOC tournament. The Lady Buccaneers started the GWOC tournament with a 2-0 loss at Wayne, 25-21, 25-12.

They then went 2-1 against Greeneville, 25-18, 17-25, 25-22. The Lady Buccaneers were led by Grace Brown 12 points. Megan Brewer had 10 points and three aces. Anna Brown had nine points, Bailey Oliver and Heidi Alex each added eight points.

Xenia fell 2-0 to Trotwood Tuesday night, 25-12, 25-10. Xenia was led by Sarah Harner’s 14 points and four aces. Brown had eight points, Heidi Alex had eight points and four aces and Kristina White had five points and an ace. The JV team’s final game was Thursday night at home against Springfield.

Xenia names three honorary coaches

XENIA — The Xenia football program honored Ms. Jenn Davis and Mrs. Ronna Couser as honorary coaches Thursday night.

Davis has taught for 17 years, the past 12 years have been in the Xenia Community Schools. She is a graduate of Hampton University in Virginia, where she majored in psychology and learning behavior disorders.

Couser and her husband, Greg, have four children who join their father as an alumni of Xenia Community Schools. The two oldest children are college graduates and the two youngest are soon to be graduates. Ronna is a graduate of Liberty University and has her master’s from Marygrove College. She has taught in Virginia, Scotland and is currently in Xenia. Mrs. Couser is a member at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Xenia where she teaches Sunday School among other activities.

Friday the football program will honor Mrs. Dana McClain as honorary football coach. McClain is married to Jon McClain. Her son Andrew, a graduate of Xenia High, is a swimmer at State University of New York in Buffalo.

She is a 1993 graduate of Xenia High School. She has taught middle school social studies for 16 years. During these years she has served as 8th grade cheer coach, Middle School WEB Advisor, and 7th grade Student Leadership Advisor.

Siefert swimming big

XENIA — Xenia swimmer Hank Siefert has been selected by USA Swimming to attend the US National Olympic Camp this October in Colorado Springs. Earlier this year, Siefert took home two national titles at the YMCA Long Course Championships, finishing with a national record and an Olympic trial invite. He competed in June at the trials in Omaha.

Basketball

Yoho selected to preseason team

Wright State men’s basketball senior JT Yoho has been selected to the Horizon League Preseason Second Team as voted by the head coaches, media and sports information directors.

Yoho, a 6-6 forward from Bloomfield, Indiana, averaged 15.6 points and 6.4 rebounds a game last year in 16 games after missing games due to an injury. He collected his career-high 25 points at Charleston Southern and his career-high 12 rebounds at Western Carolina.

The Raiders will open the season at the NIU Showcase November 13-15 where Wright State plays South Dakota, Cal State Northridge and host Northern Illinois.
