CEDARVILLE —Attorney General Mike DeWine will be among the panelists at a community forum to discuss Issue 3 and the impact marijuana would have in Ohio if the legislation passes.
DeWine will be joined by Janet Neal, DNP, RN, assistant professor of nursing from Cedarville University’s School of Nursing and Mark Pinkerton, MD, assistant professor of pharmacy practice from Cedarville’s School of Pharmacy for the 7 p.m. forum, held Thursday Oct. 22 at Main Elementary School in Beavercreek.
The forum is sponsored by Soin Medical Center and Cedarville University.
“The purpose of the forum is to bring additional information to residents in the Miami Valley before they vote,” said Mark D. Weinstein, executive director of public relations at Cedarville University. “It’s important to help voters be as educated on this topic as possible.”
Soin officials view it as a way make public their concerns about the legislation.
“Kettering Health Network’s mission is to improve the quality of life in communities we serve,” said Terry Burns, senior vice president of KHN. “We believe statewide legalization of marijuana reduces that quality of life. Educating our community about choices affecting our quality of daily life is an important way to contribute to the overall health of our community.”
Neal, who will address the impact of marijuana from a mental health perspective, has taught at Cedarville University since 2008. She earned her Doctor of Nurse Practitioner degree from the University of Cincinnati. Pinkerton, a medical doctor who practiced in Colorado and Ohio before joining the faculty in 2014, will share insight on the medicinal aspect of the legislation. His Doctor of Medicine degree is from the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo. DeWine is a resident of Cedarville, Ohio and has served one term as attorney general. He will focus on the law as it impacts monopolies and crime in Ohio. Additional panelists may be added prior to the event.
After opening remarks by all panelists, the forum will be opened up to include questions from the audience.
