GREENE COUNTY – Three Sinclair Community College professors were honored as nominees Sept. 17 for the 2015 Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) U.S. Professor of the Year award. Two of the nominees are Greene County residents, including Professor of Art Tess Little, of Fairborn, and Professor of Management and Management Information Systems, Ned D. Young, of Beavercreek. The third nominee is Tom Singer, professor of Mechanical Engineering.
The U.S. Professors of the Year program salutes outstanding undergraduate instructors in the nation — those who excel in teaching and positively influence the lives and careers of students, according to the U.S. Professor of the Year website. The webpage goes on to say that the award is the only national program to recognize excellence in undergraduate teaching and mentoring. It adds that it is recognized as one of the most prestigious awards honoring undergraduate teaching.
The website states that the award criteria for nomination are extraordinary dedication to undergraduate teaching, which is demonstrated by excellence in the following areas: impact on and involvement with undergraduate students; scholarly approach to teaching and learning; contribution to undergraduate education in the institution, community and profession; and support from colleagues and current and former undergraduate students.
The Council for Advancement and Support of Education launched the awards program in 1981. That same year, the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching began hosting the final round of judging, and in 1982, became the primary sponsor, according to the website.
