Ambassadors fly in Night Lights event

CENTERVILE — The Xenia Christian cross country teams took on the rather unusual meet Saturday Night Lights at Centerville High School. The course was lit by many portable lighting systems. Most of the competition were Division I & II schools, thus presenting quite the challenge to Xenia Christian runners. “Everyone truly embraced the spirit of the meet and went after great races,” stated Coach Jim Preston.

Racers were allowed to wear glow-in-the-dark body paint and neon glowing jewelry, and did our athletes express themselves! As for the racing, what a night! Many personal bests were recorded. Top finishers for the Junior High included: Ian Ackenhausen, Margaret Kensinger, and Jonathan Merritt.

High School boys finished 23rd in the second section varsity race with Noah Cushman at 17:01, and James Brads at 18:11. High School girls finished 17th in the first section varsity race led by Grace Norman at 19:31, Rachel Sweeney 19:43, and Tori Estepp 20:18.

“It was a great experience for the girls team to take the challenge of racing the talent of the top Division I & II schools. The girls all moved up their racing game, and now are even more prepared to go after a top seed in Division III racing at the end of the season,” coach Robin Norman added.
