ENON – The Village of Enon is inviting the general public to enjoy truckloads of fun at the village’s Third Annual Touch-A-Truck event, 4-7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, along South Xenia Drive, near Settler’s Park in the village.
The free family event, which is sponsored by the Village of Enon, will feature a wide selection of big trucks and other vehicles. Members of the Muddy Buddys Jeep Wrangler Club, which is based in Dayton and comprised of a group of individuals who share a love of off-roading adventures, will also be displaying their Jeep vehicles for all to enjoy.
“I have been told that there are about 25 Jeeps already signed up to head our way on [Sept. 20], and I am expecting more,” Enon Police Chief Lewis Wilcox said.
He also noted that the jeep show is open to all makes and models of jeeps, as well as the Jeep Wranglers.
Wilcox, along with Village Assistant Kristy Thome, is spearheading the annual Touch-A-Truck event, which he said was established in 2013 to bring the community together and to provide “hometown” family fun.
“This was such a great event last year, in terms of advertising. We have pushed out even more this year with advertising. So, we are hoping that the event will be bigger this year,” Wilcox said. “This is a great opportunity to get up close to these vehicles and meet their drivers.”
Children attending the event will have the opportunity to safely climb on and explore a variety of vehicles, including a Speedway Marathon gasoline tanker, a dump truck, a back hoe from the village, fire trucks from Enon and Mad River Township Fire Department, a tree trimming truck from C & S Tree Service, a new propane truck from Suburban Propane, a water truck from Aqua Falls Bottle Water Company, a tow truck from Tim’s Automotive, an Ohio Edison truck, a Columbia Gas truck and a garbage truck.
Wilcox noted that local children will have a chance to put their imaginations in gear, sit in the driver’s seat, and even honk a horn or two. He also encourages the public to bring their cameras and enjoy the photo opportunities.
“This is such a neat event. The children’s faces just light up when they get up close and get to actually touch those big trucks and equipment and crawl into and around on them. The children’s smiles are just awesome,” Wilcox said. “And, don’t let any one kid you – the adults like it too.”
Tom Murphy, a well-known disc jockey from Springfield, will be on hand to entertain the crowd with a selection of music. Tasty treats and beverages will be available to purchase, including ice cream from J & L Cool Spot. Free parking and restroom accommodations will also be provided.
“Where else can you go and see really cool trucks and Jeeps, hear awesome music, and have a good time for free?” asked Wilcox.
According to the police chief, those individuals who would like to register a truck or vehicle to display at the Touch-A-Truck event, still have plenty of time to do so.
“The more the merrier, and there is no fee to participate,” Wilcox said.
